Dear GOG,

Instead of making daily surprise like it is, I think it just better you make a 'number of games for 75% off' and call it a day.

I know, you want to generate sales, and you might want people to buy games they might not previously.

First of all, I don't know user might get games they already have (I didn't, maybe you already make a check there). But, if they receive game they don't like, for various reason (genre, gameplay, what not) you are losing a sale.

So better off if you plan how much games you want to sell at 75%, and just do that. Like, "Pick 7 games for 75% off".

I think you will get more sales that way. IMHO. In the end, that is my opinion, since you are the one with sales data.

edit:

another thing, instead of by publisher package, you might want to make a series package. for example current bullfrog games.

The reason is that just because someone loves Ultima by Origin, it doesn't mean they would love Strike Commander by Origin too. Forcing them into a package might cause users bought games they might not play.

For example I would love Magic Carpet 2, and Syndicate 1, and already own Syndicate Wars, and prefer not to play MC 1. But to force them along Theme Hospital and Populus (which is very different from Syndicate series and Carpet series)... I don't know.

I have budget - and sometimes forcing tens and twenties game into a package causing the price to be outside my budget (before or after buying other games).

I know that is the idea of packages, but remember two things:

1 - buying a game you doesn't play is a waste.
2 - no matter how low the price is for 1st world countries, not everyone is from 1st world countries.

The press release said the mystery boxes would also contain free games. We don't know how this will be implemented yet, though. I don't know if anyone already got one, or if one day everyone gets a random free game or something.
And there's been games for 80-85% off as well, I recall people saying.

No kidding, there are some people here from Canada.
Why is profit maximization the sole goal of every sale? It is like saying that the only reason people go to a casino is to make money. No they don't.

I like the gifts because I like the element of surprise. Even if I never buy a game from one of those gifts it is still fun to come to the site, click on a box, and see what it is there. Is that kind of silly? Yes. But silly is sometimes fun.

Psychology, how does it work.

Ha ha...

I'm from Malaysia :-)

And there are people who couldn’t even afford credit card, and they bought games using VISA compatible debit card.

Our minimum wage is around USD 297 dollar. For what is worth.

I know and I was only having some fun. You make solid points and the last thing I want is my joke to detract from those, seriously. I'll remove that post if you want.

Nah, that OK. :-)

I know its a joke.

One thing I want to add, since people might also buy games from Humble Bundle and Steam, some games are already owned by users from different gaming account which GOG cannot check.

For example is that games like Legend of Grimrock, etc.

You got some preemptive +rep for all of this, you horrible person.

It'll be good if we didn't had the games we already own as well. But the random nature of this is to stimulate the advent calendar, which means there's probably going to be a big surprise on Christmas.

Thanks for posting that, actually. It is a nice reminder of what is easy to forget. Where I live in the USA the minimum wage per month works out to $1350 per month, or roughly 4.5X as much as yours.
I just wish I Wouldn´t get an offer for games I already own on GOG itself.

You can be offered games you already own.

However, look at it this way. In the sale, you already have discounts on 99% of the games in the catalogue. Think of the secret box as a little game and a nice extra surprise on the top.
You should read this "open letter" in front of the UN :P

Yes they do. I got an offer yesterday for DEFCON which I already own. I could only buy it as a gift. I don’t know who invented the surprise selection algorithm, but it’s quite bad.
I like the daily surprise but it definitely shouldn't contain games that you already own, that's silly.

It would be hilarious, if people open their free games and get Fallout.
