It only says 10 million people played Diablo III, but I don't know how many of them bought a copy. I know that 1.4 million people got a copy from the WoW annual pass. I've played the beta or demo or whatever it was but I haven't bought the game.

everyone buys d3 because of expectations.. no one really trust reviews and youtube videos but if you login to d3 you dont see even a 500.000 games played online.. more like only a laughable number like 1000...

That depends on the server you're playing. Players are split into multiple servers. Do you really think only 1000 people are playing in Europe? :)

EDIT: I see MoP on Metacritic is feeling the same hatred as ME3, DA2, TW2, D3, and many other AAA games. Some people really need to get a life. Most of the 0 reviews are pathetic, how can you say no new artwork when an entire continent is full with new models / textures / meshes not seen before in WoW? :)

Why? Linux gaming is seriously not huge. About a fifth of humble bundle sales is to Linux gamers, and I'd hazard a guess that the bundle attracts proportionally more Linux gamers than Windows gamers, as in, (# Linux sales / # Linux gamers) > (# Windows sales / # Windows gamers). Also, Linux support for older hardware is better, and the system requirements of D3 are through the roof. All in all, there are not many lost sales, and perhaps not even any lost opportunity profit.

It's fanboyism. Your favourite platform doing well isn't enough; you also need the rival platforms to fail.
This goes for all sides in the platform debate. It also goes for other things as well (see: classic WRPGs vs everything else).

I still wished I hadn't bought it and if it wasn't for the fact I've locked it to an account I've diablo 2 and warcraft III on I would have sold it.

I didn't mention Linux because the game does not officially support any Linux distro. It is irrelevant whether people play it on Linux, it is only being sold for Win and Mac.
