Weclock: If you don't already have Titan Quest, I HIGHLY recommend it.

honorbuddy: I got it when it was a couple of bucks on Impulse several months ago along with one of the Dawn of War stand alone expansions. I played it for a weekend and enjoyed it, but then something else came along and took my attention, that something else being school work, and I haven't gotten back to it, now I'm working my way through the latest Prince of Persia when I have time.
yeah, being a clone it is kind of forgettable, but it's very solid - if you're still playing Diablo 2, drop that and play Titan Quest.
Seeing they have the entire X-COM catalogue for $5.00 collectively, I am very tempted to buy it, but what is the DRM like with these guys? What is the phone home like, if any? I'd love at least the very first one again, but I don't want any background stuff whatsoever and want nothing but the game when I buy these days.

D2D has activation limits on every title. If you're looking for DRM-free games, look elsewhere. The Steam versions use DOSbox and therefore don't need Steam to run, if that's any help.

I never played Diablo 2, does that make me a bad person?

Thanks for the tip. I knew it had to be too good to be true.

Navagon is incorrect. There are a number of titles on Direct2Drive specifically listed as DRM free. For instance three of the five X-Com titles (including the first 2) are listed as DRM free, see links:

I little while ago I wanted to buy Cogs from them as it was listed as DRM free. I contacted D2D customer support and asked them if they could specifically confirm that I could install and play the games which are listed as 'DRM Free' without connecting to their servers and this is the reply I recieved:
"That is correct! DRM free games can be installed and played offline."
I bought and downloaded Cogs and it was simply a standalone installer. Hope this helps.
D2D does not have activation limits on EVERY title it's just that they don't bother telling you which ones do and which ones don't

D2D sells certain titles DRM-free, meaning that there is no publisher DRM OR D2D activation requirement. These titles are marked as such in the game description. In this case, UFO Defense, Terror from the Deep, and Apocalypse are all DRM-free. In fact, I just tried installing them with my network cable unplugged just to make sure, and I was able to install and play with no problem.
There may be limitations on your account for these games, such as on the number of times you can download it, but I wouldn't know.
Interceptor and Enforcer both require D2D activation.

They have activation limits, but to get over that you post a support ticket asking them to renew, and they renew your activations pretty fast. They've never given me trouble, and they always come through.

Which by any reasonable standards is indifferent from them all having activation limits.

What if the site went under? Or simply decided to stop supporting certain games? There don't seem to be any guarantees at all.

They've stopped selling certain titles before, titles I own, like the original Butcher Bay. But that game is still available on my download list, and they still reactivate it for me when I have problems.

That's not really what I meant. There's nothing to say for sure that they're not going to withdraw support, aside from a couple of not-exactly-legally-binding FAQ entries.
If they stop selling older titles, why not just patch out the DRM then and there? Then they won't have to extend support to titles they're not selling anymore.
If the title is deemed no longer saleable, then clearly piracy isn't going to be an issue. Publishers are only worried about the sales for a set amount of months. Not years.
Anyone play Drakensang? It looks really good, but I haven't found many reviews and the IGn and GS don't really tell me enough. It kind of looks like a cross between Gothic and WoW.

I was looking at that as well. I tried a bit of the demo, but I wasn't really in the frame of mind for it at the time. For $5 I'll probably get it.
Anybody know anything about Elven Legacy?

honorbuddy: None of those games look that interesting to me. I kind of want King's Bounty though, everybody is always saying how awesome it is.

Worth a buy if you enjoy turn based strategy games like heroes of might and magic.
The exspansion should be coming out before the end of the year.
I was looking at Elven Legacy and Drakensang, Anybody know if they are worth picking up?
