Hi,

My girlfriend was playing CoMI. She was at the beginning of part 3 (Blood Island) when the game suddenly froze up (upon opening the recipe book the cursor disappeared and nothing could be done).

I was wondering if anybody has a save game for the begynning of part 3 laying around. I have found savegames on the net but nothing for ScummVM (which wil only accept it's own save games, it seems).

She/we would be very greatfull if anyone has a savegame or some advice as to how to get past the bug.
Just to be clear about this, I don't have the saves you need.

Firstly, how far back is the previous save? In other words, now that she knows what she needs to do, how long is it going to take her to reach the spot it crashed?

Secondly have you made sure that SCUMMVM is the latest version? They're constantly fixing incompatibilities so you might just be in luck and the latest version may have fixed it.

Thanks for the reply. Well, she's no hardcore adventurer, so her last save is actually several hours back.. I guess she can make it there in about 1 hour, but her spirit is easily broken when it comes to this kind of thing, and i don't think playing this much of the game over again is going to do the ganre any favours in her book. It's a lesson usually learned the hard way. :P

It is the latest version of ScummVM. She installed it yesterday just to play Monkey Island 3.

Doesn't ScummVM autosave really often?
uh oh, you've encountered the 'curse of the curse of monkey island save game'.
no COMI save game file will ever work on any computer thus haunted...

Haunted? Surely a bottle of root beer can fix that!

It seems one of hte first things she did was overwrite the AutoSave, which apparently stopped ScummVM from autosaving..

Damn! >.<
I never tried it, but you can start the game from special places with boot parameters. I don't know if you then also get all the stuff you need, so maybe it makes no sense to play further from this point,

http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Boot_Params

Edit: Maybe i should take a closer look on my links before I post ;-) So, you don't get any items. Sometimes the inventar gets cleared when a new part begins, but I can't remember if this also belongs to the third part of MI3.

Edit 2: I feel like a stalker. Searching the scummvm-forum for savegames it shows me the same request ;-)

I actually have a save game in ScummVM CoMI at the very start of the second big island, right after the pirate ship section. Is that where you are talking about?

If so I got it. Gimme an email addy and I will send it along.

Yeah, she made a post there, and didn't want to spend the time explaining the problem, so she just copied my post here. Women.. :P

Sent! As I say in the email that should be the right one based on file date, but if not let me know and I will send all of them. Have fun!

Heh, I would have played the game right now just to get to the point where you left off, if you hadn't received the offer from StingingVelvet. It wouldn't be work, or even a favor, but just because it's MI. :)

Thanks! Perfect. She/I/we are/is very happy. :D

PS: Do you mind editing my Email-adress out of your post. :P
I'm a little defensive.
Shot in the dark but GameFAQs hosts save for games. Mostly console games but I'd assume they would have PC titles there as well. Also the Cheats section on there site might have a code for a hidden level select menu.
