Windforge was apparently a Roach Motel on release, but it seems to have gotten several patches. Not much activity over in the game forum, can anyone report on its current state? Is it fairly stable now, and worth grabbing at the discount?

I'll give this a bump, as I'm a bit curious too. I asked in the Sale Thread about an hour or so ago as well - I'll make sure to link for you if I get a response there.
Around the Summer sale last year I recall people were reporting some improvement with the bugs. I can't report first hand (but seemingly no one can).

Personally I find Terraria to be more promising, well vetted, and often cheaper (just not currently).

I'm scared off the title for this reason.
As I understand it, the games still has issues, but at least it had a patch September 25, 2014:

I think I'll buy it. Right now it is is cheap enough to buy (at this point, a telephone saleswoman called me ... no idea what she said, but I answered my politest bye-bye) even if its a somewhat broken experience. I aim to play it to "try something new that doesn't quite work" :-)
Well, it seems I'm not even going to have to risk $2.99 to find out.

Thanks to the code-sender!

Don't forget to report your findings, if you try it. Would be a shame if a game is branded as buggy for all eternity, even though the infamous bugs have been fixed.

I will, but I have to get home from work first. :)

All game-breaking bugs have been dealt with. Played the game just a few days ago .

No pressure! I didn't mean today and I wouldn't expect you to run into bugs immediately either. Just saying if you find out at some point that the critical reviews are not justified anymore, it would be cool if you'd let others know, write a review with a clarifying statement or something. :)

Thanks for reporting in, that's the info I was looking for.
Didn't played it when it was released, only this weekend and it was from a bundle, not my cup of tea (didn't really liked the menu/inventory) and the only problem that i was having was with the framerate and screen tearing.
Evidently not all the bugs have been dealt with; it won't even start on my system.

Any ideas?

Anyone?

I tried all the combat settings.

Due to use of OpenGL (version 3) you'll need fairly recent drivers to run it. Even if your hardware supports it, your drivers might not. This was the case for me. My hardware supports OpenGL up to 4.1 but the laptop manufacturers drivers did not support even OpenGL 3. The hoops I had to jump thru to get ATI's reference drivers to install...

The game is considerably more stable, but occasionally may crash while working with the inventory, but this was quite rare and i was able to play for a few hours with minimal saving.

Honestly it's worth giving a try, although the mist in the lower levels still kills performance...
