REP seems kind of important in the Forums, and there is talk about someone with multiply accounts. So newer people need higher Rep to take part in giveaways.

It occured to me, that my purchases should count to increase my Rep at least somewhat. It would probably slow down user with multi-accounts, they would have to buy stuff for each account. And it would be a clear indicator of who is supporting GOG in general. Cause if people don't buy games then there could possible be no Forum in the future to have Rep on.

Now I figure GOG wouldn't want a direct link between the Forum and the Purchasing side of things, so maybe they could have a email that gave you a code that you could then enter into your account profile and a boost in Rep would occur.

This seem like a fantasic idea before I started typing it out :| Would this idea also spur sales? Maybe. I don't know if anyone else is feeling left out because there rep is low. I hope this isn't a terrible idea.

While I don't see this as a bad idea, say 2 rep points for every GOG game purchased, forum rep isn't really a big deal. Some people do set rep bars or join-date bars during forum giveaways or for trading, but that is mostly for protection against scammers. Most giveaways, contests, and trades you'll be okay.

Actually services like Steam gifts and the indy gala giveaways get to assess the worth of your Steam library so, yeah, this sort of thing does happen with other DD services, but, then I think its all part of Steamworks and the DRM app *boo, hiss*

Might be trying to solve a problem that doesn't really exist. Have entered a number of contest already, true. Wouldn't want GOG to become anything like Steam, TRUE. :)

I think that scammers wouldn't buy bunches of games for multiple accounts just to build rep. So a little boost to GOG purchasers would be adding to trustworthiness. Could be wrong. Just thought I'd throw the idea out there.

This. If you just hang around a while and chat with us you'll become known and get some rep points. The thing is we have had some problems with scammers as of late which is why people are less trusting now. It is not necessary your rep that holds the bar of how good a contributor you are, but of how known you are. Its nothing personal.

Even if you have bought a lot of games here, it is still not a sign of how trustworthy you are as an individual. When you post on the forums people can get to know you, and can look up your posts to see what kind of individual you are. Do you have a history of trolling? Do you have a history of being generous? Do you have a history of making helpful posts?

If you just come on here out of the blue and ask for trades, people can't get a good assessment of how trustworthy you are. People have gotten burnt. It is on this ground is why I don't think tying rep to purchases is going to solve much. It is not the rep that matters, but your participation and how known you are.

You'll get 1 rep for every day you post something (in general), so yeah, I think it's a problem that doesn't exist.

Having a widget to optionally display your GOG library count is fine, I guess, as long as I don't have to turn it on.

I think one of the key points about Rep, and what restricts the lower rep users, is that it takes time. The moment there's another avenue to acquiring it, then it becomes useless as a measure.

People will try all sorts of things to get into GOG gifts, other than taking the time to post regurlarly and slowly gain the rep.

And how slow is it, really? Don't be offensive and post inane crap (i.e. lurk long enough to figure out what the community thinks is a worthy topic) and you'll be above most rep thresholds in a month.

I know, and I even avoided the question malarky, however it seems to be enough. And if not, people will push the limit up. The measure is still useful, it takes time.

I shouldn't be saying this but I picked up a bunch of rep today and all I did was hang out in here ALL DAY (it was slow at the old B&B) and pester people. It definitly isn't slow, but it is a little strange; I get a pat on the back in here for doing things that have gotten me kicked out of other forums. :P

If possible, maybe have a system where someone gets a small check mark beside their rep when PMing a person if they have bought a game on GOG before.

It would cut back on scammers as I doubt many would buy something for the sole intent of trying to scam people before they get caught and exposed.

I realize this would possibly hurt legit new users, so it would be up to the person wanting to trade or do a giveaway to decide.

Hmm could turn into an E-Peen thing, then again I suppose that shouldn't be a deterrent for something useful.

The worst thing about this idea is that every time a user scams someone, they get more rep. Which of course makes it worse than useless for determining trustworthiness in giveaways etc.
