In that case you're in good shape. The reason I asked is because if idle temps are high (e.g. over 45 C) then that can mean you're getting good heat transfer to the heatsink, but have poor airflow around the CPU. Idle temps of 25-35 with load temps maxing out around 60 C is very reasonable and means you have nothing to worry about when it comes to CPU cooling.

OFG, and chance you'll be able to get some pics of your new rig so we can see it? I know you said you don't have a camera right now, but perhaps you could borrow one?

I also repeat the request for pictures, especially if you can add your silly grin in the frame :P

This stupid laptop has a built in webcam, but no friggin software to take a photo with. My last laptop had a webcam and it had software that would let me take video or snap shots. It's kind of bulky pointing a laptop in the right direction, but dammit it got the job done. Plus the photos were already right there in my pics directory, no downloading required.

This is a GREAT laptop, but that's my one complaint. No software to use the webcam with. And being such a top of the line laptop, that seems unbelievable to me.

OT: New rig AND new laptop has built in bluetooth. Does this mean anything to me?? I always thought bluetooth had something to do with phones, and I have no cell phone so I'm guessing this will not be anything I ever need to mess with.

You can use Bluetooth to transfer info from your laptop to your PC and vice-versa. You can also use it for wireless hardware, like keyboard and mouse and printer. Might be more convenient than using cables.

Awesome! I've been burning files to a CD and transferring some stuff between the two, that would make it a lot easier.

I'll have to see if I can figure out how to do that. Damn laptop AND new rig have zero info on bluetooth to read. I'll give der google a look.

For those wondering about SLI.

I just did two 3DMark 11 tests.

With SLI disabled, test one averaged 26.4 FPS

With SLI enabled, test one averaged 54.1 FPS

And that's not some "trick" because I watched the scenery. The test lasts for 30 seconds each time. On the second run (with SLI enabled) I got WAY past the point of the first look. In other words, it counts frames, and on the first run through I got to XXX frame in 30 seconds and on the second one I got to YYY frame in 30 seconds, which was far past where I got watching the scenery the first time.

SLI really does improved perforance BIG TIME.

Now, do ALL games take full advantage of it??? No. Not yet.

But more and more do, and Nvidia is constantly adding more and more older games that can through improvements in their drivers.

And speaking of drivers, this is using directx11. Another bad rap for Nvidia at least as far as I can tell. I didn't have trouble with directx11 in my last rig running two 470's, and so far none with this one.

For those interested, my score with SLI disabled was P4889, and with SLI enabled it was P8470.

A huge imrovement in performance. Both scores put me on the highest bar in the histogram meaning my performance is what most others are with the same type setup. Those faster are probably overclocking, those slower are probably experiencing bottlenecks or some other issue.

I am extremely pleased with these scores, and are actually higher than that last rig. And I'm not going to worry about my video cards anymore. It's apparent they are both working. I dunno what the hell I did, but I got video with one and not with the other at first (thus the RMA to return one). But, I had taken a sharpie and marked a "1" and "2" on the cards and dammit if my fingers or something didn't smudge them and when I went to return number 2, I couldn't make out which was which. And then when I put them in one at a time, BOTH gave me video. And now, from these tests, it's very apparent both are working.

Weird. But then again, I'm weird. Certain amount of harmony there I guess. lol

Thanks, tried it, but it only records video and I have no idea how to take a pic out of video. My last laptop (HP Pavilion) had software where I could press on a button to record video OR a button to take a snapshot. Even made a sound like a camera everytime I took a pic. lol

And that laptop is Dead. Hard drive I think.
