True that.
It says: "You'll get your bloody Atari games on tuesday noon!" And its cool and totally informative.
"We must finally shut them up with some atari games or the bitchin' gets more and more irritating."
Outcast
I-War
Blood 1 & 2
Total Annihilation
Master of Orion 1,2,3
Alone in the Dark 1,2,3 + Jack in the Dark

That's quite dumb imho but If you really hate countdowns that much...

Wishbone: I must admit, I hated the original Alone In The Dark, and as a consequence, never played any of the sequels.
It was the useless fixed camera angles that did it. When someone's firing at me from behind a hedge, and I can't move the camera to see where they are and shoot back, I get frustrated.

Mentalepsy: Are you sure that was the first game? I don't remember there being a scene like that in the original - almost all enemies fought hand-to-hand, and I'm almost certain there were no hedged areas (the entire game takes place within and below the Hartwood mansion). The third game, however, opens with Carnby facing off against a group of zombies with machine guns. :/

Hmm, looking at screenshots from the three games on Mobygames, I think I have to conclude that I remember wrongly, and it was in fact AITD2. At least, that looks like the hated hedge maze I recall.

I never played the second game (or past the first area of the third game - zombies with machine guns, you understand), but it does sound like a hassle. The controls in the first game are a bit awkward, but I rarely had any real camera issues, and the combat was pretty low-key.
I remember a spot in Resident Evil 2 where you step into a hallway full of zombies, and the camera is pointed directly into your character's face. You can hear about half a dozen of them, but you can't see them, nor can you see how far away they are (as it turns out, not very) or what's actually in the hallway.
I hated Resident Evil 2, though the camera was only one reason for that.

Generally, if you choose to use fixed variable camera angles in a 3D game (which I always think is a bad idea), then you have to be damned careful how you design your levels and how you position your enemies. The combination of a locked-down camera and important stuff happening outside the camera view is a game-killer in my opinion.

I do, with a passion. It's one of the marketing strategies I well and truly hate -- and which always lead me to strike off the product from the to-buy list. A release date is all well and dandy -- and the site even has a "Coming soon" section that is WAY more informative than this countdown crap -- it was for Siberia, etc. Cold, hard data with which I can decide whether any hype is worth it. But this ? No.
I don't consider it dumb to punish a company for using bad, obnoxious marketing by voting with my wallet. :P
Shattered,
No disrespect intended, but it is actually quite easy to guess what games are coming. 'Don't be an Outcast from Orion', in my mind, points to Master of Orion and Outcast being released tomorrow.
I wouldn't say it's a marketing strategy this time as we all have a pretty good idea what's coming, thanks to Outcast and Master of Orion being mentioned in a news release on the website as games that are coming. Rather, I'd say it's to let people who've complaining/wondering about the Atari games know that they're coming tomorrow.
Of course, it could not be pointing to the games I mentioned, but I think all evidence points to them and I don't think they're being cryptic. Thing is with the coming soon page, it doesn't give a date. The countdown timer does. So, I don't really know where you're coming from on this coming soon page being 'more informative' viewpoint.
If we didn't know what was coming though, I'd be more inclined to agree. Note: Not really agree, but I'd see more sense.
Granted, maybe people who don't view all of the news items etc. might not be too sure what's coming though.

Indeed, we may have a difference in opinion :) I find countdown timers like that obnoxious enough to base buying decisions on it.
I agree that some form of MOO and Outcast will probably be in there. Why they could not make it a "coming soon" item with proper game page and a proper graphic is beyond me. They obviously have the know-how to do so (this site is actually pretty great in that respect). The pointless "countdown" could have been replaced by an actually informative graphic, a release date, etc.
They /have/ a coming-soon page, and neither of those games are on there. That is not consistent, either (http://www.gog.com/en/search/sort/availability/coming_soon). Having that countdown and not having them on there is deliberately cryptic and vague.
Don't get me wrong, I love GoG, and have bought a bunch of games so far. I'd just hate to see their marketing team run away with really, really bad ideas (IMO, YMMV :)
i'm waiting for Master of Magic

Says the user with "Hamburgers" in the user title :-).
Aren't you afraid you'll be processed into a hamburger* if you moo around like this? :-D
(Sorry, I had to...)

Hmm... Changes coming to Atari?
"Atari Co-founder Nolan Bushnell Rejoins Company as Board Member"
Hopefully MOO2, and not the original
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if Outcast does show up tomorrow, would that be the first time something on the Wishlist Top 10 makes it to the catalogue? (And if so, would GOG actually take it off so that #11 could climb in?)
A surprise game is coming. Not tomorrow though.

Yes it would.
I don't think so, but that would be nice. Probably the wishlist will be revamped when the site redesign comes late this year.
