JaqFrost: So you'd recommend picking up Psychonauts over Beyond Good and Evil, or both?
I've mainly played RPGs with the odd dabble into something else, so I'm looking to broaden my horizons and discover other things I might enjoy. :)
Well, I can't decide that in your stead, I don't know you and can't judge whether you'd enjoy these games and if so which one you'd enjoy more. :)
I think Psychonauts is the more original and outstanding, but it's not without flaws. Even though I had a great time playing through it, there were at least three or four situations that were really frustrating (partly because of the controls) and where it took me forever to get through them, and I still haven't beat the final level. But I loved the game so much despite it, that I kept on trying until I succeeded, and I was always rewarded for the perseverance.
I haven't fully played through Beyond Good and Evil, but it might be a bit easier to handle. Not saying that Psychonauts is hard - it's actually rather easy most of the time - but the difficulty curve is a bit weird.
That being said, I can recommend both, but I can't guarantee that everyone will like them as much as I do, especially if you've never played any other games like it - you might end up loving them but you might just as well find out that this genre is not your cup of tea. If you need to choose between the two, I'd say Psychonauts is more of a must-play than BG&E because it's so hilarious, while BG&E might have a more consistent difficulty curve and won't surprise you as much as Psychonauts (in both good and bad ways). Both are cool and orignal in their own way though.
