Does anyone else here play this indie game?
http://www.datarealms.com/
It's one of the most innovative games to have graced indie community. Well not innovative as in the revolutionary sense, but it takes combines all sorts of different games together - Metal Slug, Worms, Havok physics. Check it out
Ah, I bought it when there was a sale a few months ago, installed it and then.... completely forgot to play it. Thanks for reminding me. :-)
It looks excellent.
Shame on you for not playing it! ;)
You should get the latest version though. If I'm not wrong, after that sale, there should be a newer version out
Just tried the demo. The concept is interesting, but the controls are very awkward. From what I've seen of it, $18 is quite a bit more than I want to pay for it. And as I understand it, that price is going to keep rising over time.
I bought it, it's great. Updates are really slow to come by though.
Neat graphics ... I've got to try that :D

That's the unfortunate side. You'll have to get used to the controls, but it's not too hard when you've blasted about 200 enemies in one game. If that's your main gripe, you should keep an eye out on the next version. Supposedly Data will be fixing the controls then

Only recently. The last update was over 4 months ago. In the past, updates were spaced only 3-4 weeks apart

Game's even neater. Try doing a cannonball somersault and see if you can take out a dummy bot or coalition

I have this on my long list of indie games to buy when I've got a slew of 10 dollar bills lying around the house.
I've played it since Build 10 was the newest, and it was still total freeware (which ended with Build 19 or so). It's come a long way since then, though many mods were broken twice or three times over between then and now, and thus I keep multiple builds installed for that reason.
And, yes, the controls do take some getting used to. It really helps if you have a gamepad with dual analog sticks.

I have, and I might try it, but I doubt it'll make much of a difference. A control scheme where a thing as simple as walking is made into a challenging task, is a definite turn-off for me.
Also, I'm guessing that the one pitifully simple level included in the demo is hardly representative of what the full game has to offer, but it's still the only thing shown, and as such, I do not want to waste my money on a seemingly very overpriced game, for simply more of the same.
Holy cow, Build 23 is FINALLY released!
yeah, i liked the concept but i was so bad at it i didn't have fun for long
I have definitely heard of it, most indie sites a frequent feature links to it prominently.
However, I've been turned off it for several reasons:
1) Go check out there forums. You'll know what I mean.
2) It has no campaign
3) Every "neutral" person I've asked have pretty told me straight up that it's nothing much more than a engine right now. To make it a worthwhile experience I'd have to wade through reams of user-made assets (see my "look at their forums" point).
4) $18 is ALOT to ask for what is essentially a glorified tech demo.
If the game can't stand on it's own, then the community is the only source of an actual "game", but the community appears to be incredibly disorganized and toxic, and I don't want to be a part of that. Not for the price of $18 and who knows how much time invested.
That's part of the reason I stopped playing Oblivion. It's community is fine, of course, but the time invested in "fixing" the game was outweighing the actual time I was playing it.

1) I agree. Apparently people think that online anonymity means you can unleash the asshole within. It's pretty sad when even the tech support moderators join in the fun sometimes to troll
2) The latest build has some sort of campaign going on already. It's still not inter-linked yet, but the basic outline is there (5 missions in total)
3 & 4) Alright I agree it's a tech demo, but it's a damn fun one at that. Although, I'm very disappointed how controls weren't fixed, the explosive bug is still there, actors still end up crushing one another when they come out of dropships
You guys have legit complaints, so I can't say I disagree. Just have to hope Daniel gets around to fixing these issues asap. It's too bad these issues are overlooked by the fanbois, and when you pop over to the forums to talk about it, you'll get shot down like a dummy dropship "wtf n00b get used to the controls, & randomness is all part of the game thats why i love it lulz"

Noticed Cortex Command just got released on Steam, so I looked at my Humble account and found that it had a new build uploaded today - seems like it is finally got a release build!

(now whatever is happening to Splot...)

Edit - and if you go back and open up Humble Bundle #2 you will find a steam key there, if you want it. Nice.
