Question: Do gog installers extract the install files to a temp folder where I can replace the corrupt file with a possible good file and then proceed with the install?

Back story/why I'm asking: So I'm deployed to a small base in Afghan and have craptackular satellite internet. Trying to download Arcanum. I've downloaded it four times (two weeks of downloading). After downloading I try to install, it says files are corrupt, I tried skipping the check.. I've gotten a failed to install arcanum1.dat failed and arcanum2.dat failed. I'm thinking if I can combine the files from these two corrupt downloads I can install the game.

Thanks for any feedback.

As far as I know, InnoSetup, the Open Source program the GOG.com installers are based on, doesn't use any temporary files, it just extracts them straight to where they end up going. Sorry, but I think the only way to play the game is to get a complete download. :(

haha... yeah, might have too. mail takes about a month to a month and a half depending on weather..

You'll need three completed attempts at a download. Then there seems to have been some success with ccorr for combining them. See: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/psychonauts/corrupt_files_for_windows_7

You can extract GOG installers with and then manually put the working files together. This way you won't get the Start Menu shortcuts and so forth (unless you want to be really adventurous and attempt to recompile the installer with [url=http://www.jrsoftware.org/isdl.php]Inno Setup itself) but at the very least you should be able to reassemble the files into a working state.

For future downloads I'd recommend using a download manager such as Free Download Manager which will allow you to resume any interrupted download (although for GOG downloads you'll need to feed in a new source URL in order to resume). I've used Free Download Manager for all my GOG games and I've never ended up with a corrupted download no matter how many times I've resumed it.

You can't resume. Or at least not in any way I've found. The download link is time limited and the freedownload manager doesn't really handle that very well. By the time the file is analyzed the download link is already gone.

Initiate a new download window, but don't actually start the new download. Then take that URL and paste it into the existing download. If you initiate the new download first in any way you'll invalidate the link.

yeah, closer to the later, shit gets scanned for booze, porn, etc, anything fun.

BTW, thanks everyone for the suggestions, if I wasn't mildly retarded and had deleted the four copies I had already downloaded. Sooooo, I've got another corrupt install.. working on the second.. some time this month I will play this game.... might try the free download manager for the final copy.. then cry if it pulls a clean version..
