As some of you may know, I visited Tokyo last year. While it was awesome and all, we did notice we lacked something. A guide, a contact, anyone from Japan. That led to the fact that we were... lost. I hope you know what I mean by that.

As we are going back there this year, I don't want to repeat the same mistake. As this forum is pretty much the only I frequent, I'll ask for your help. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Where could we find a contact? I am not looking a date or anything, I'm sure my wife would object. But someone who could show us around, be with us and all that.

This may sound pathetic and all, but worth a shot.

Doesn't bansama live in Japan?

I used to have several Japanese friends back from my university days, but sadly I lost contact with them all, and no, I do not think they are fellow GOGers.

Find japanese GOGers, tell them what places you're gonna go to, see which ones live there, and make an arrangement.

Depends on where you're going - AFAIK bansama doesn't live in Tokyo. Not sure about other GOGers in Japan.
I'm afraid I really can't be of help. Like tarangwydion I think that bansama might be able to help. I also think it would be good to have a guide or someone who knows their way around. While I'm sure you could find information about the places to see in Japan online you wouldn't see the places that a local could show you. Even if the japanese goggers can't show you around themselves they could give you some great places to see that aren't well known.

Again, sorry I couldn't help. Hope you guys stay safe on your trip and have a great time.

P.S. No games for me. Just bumping the thread.

Easier said than done, really...

Just make another thread called "Seeking people in Japan" or something like that. If you make it, they will come :P If they can't actually take you on a tour, they might at least tell you stuff, give you addresses and so forth.

Yeah off the top of my head, there's also xa_chan, Bigs and dyscode.
I'll probably go back twice this year, but I'm afraid I'm only one rank above tourist if I'm honest with myself. Probably not what you need...
I wouldn't be of much help unfortunately.. only been here a short time, and not all that familiar with my immediate surroundings (Nagano) than the concrete jungles of Tokyo

Sorry! :(
I was in Japan a couple years ago, and I can assure you that it's an entire different experience when you can get in touch with local people. Even if that contact is just with a broken, crappy Japanese like mine (I mean the language, re-reading this sentence it sounds weird). So do your best to get someone.

I recall the tourist information center in Tokyo had volunteers for this kind of thing. I didn't take them up on their offer, as I spent most of my time on smaller places, but it may be worth checking for you.
Try "couch surfer" or coach surfing or whatever it is called. It isn't just to arrange a place to stay, many people use it to meet local people. When I was in Singapore I met up with one lady for dinner and talked for a while, that was it.

Erm, I don't believe people would particularly enjoy me placing myself onto someone's couch xD
