Magmarock: Why do so many people hate my post is it because it's badly worded or because I don't like consoles.
avatar
Wishbone: Probably a bit of both. And also because people think that "the disc cases are too flimsy" is a ridiculously weak argument to back up a bold generalized statement like "consoles are pathetic".
The whole disc case thing was meant more as a metaphor for lost quality. For $500 you got a N64 with a game which would last you for months, a life time warranty, zero loading times and a DOA rate that was less then 1%

360 was was around $600 with a 1 year warranty at first, long loading times and most games will last you around a five hours. Most of all had a faultily rate of over 60% yet people still kept buying it.

Magmarock: Okay it looks like I'm going to have to clarify a few things since people seem to be taking what I said out of context.
How about just not make dumb threads on online forums? You're a person on the internet not a politician.

Go play some games and enjoy yourself.

Unless you are a politician in which case what are you doing here and not out kissing hands and shaking babies?

Fictionvision: Considering how the Japanese gaming industry has slowly declined over this last generation, and most games developed elsewhere get PC port anyways, I see little reason to own either console if you have a decent PC.

The extra cost of a more powerful PC is erased fairly soon when you aren't paying $50 a year to play online and paying a good amount less for your games.
Right, and despite what I've seen a lot of gamers say, you don't have to upgrade a pc 2 or 3 times a year, or once a year. Enthusiasts do that, but it isn't required. If you buy higher end hardware to begin with, then you can stretch that out over 3 to 5 years, or even longer depending on the hardware and the types of games you play.

I've still got my PS2 and 3; never any problems with them.

If you're saying console games cost too much, I agree with you. I think the consoles themselves cost too much, even though people tend to always say "But they lose money on them." That seems kinda dumb in this day and age, but maybe it is true that they think "We'll make it up by charging an arm and a leg for games."

I like consoles. I like pc. There are certain types of games I'll play on console but not pc (eg, driving, shooting, sports), and types I'll play on pc but not console (eg, strategy, world-building, things like that).

I don't have a PS4 yet, so I can't comment on game cases. They seemed perfectly fine for PS3 games, though. Not everyone throws them on the floor and steps on them. :-)

tinyE: This console is anything but pathetic.
Holy cow. They must be using rocket engines to blow the cartridges.
That is freaking awesome...

lol

I couldn't get through it all myself.

To the OP: If you don't like consoles, don't play games on them. Problem solved. Have a nice day.

Magmarock: Please let me be frank and disclose a few things.

I understand if this is preaching to the quire, but I still want to talk about. If you are still a console gamer yourself I have nothing against you personally only against the busyness model you subscribe to.

So I'm not going to go too much into the how the PS4 is just a better PS3 and pointless and I think everything has already been said about the Xbox one.

However, what I want to talk about it is the DVD cases of all things. I walked into EB games today and picked up one of the empty cases for the x box one and PS4 and I was surprised to find just how flimsy they are. I mean the 360 and PS3 cases were nothing special but it feels like a warm breath would melt these things. It makes me angry not just the fact that $99 games are sold in these things along with scratch insurance for an extra $5 but the fact that it displays the exact type of attitude this industry has for it's consumer.

I firmly believe that consoles are a waist of everybody's time and both the industry and the consumer base will benefit when these boxes that you plug into your TV to play games are a relic of the past like VHS.

That's my two cents and I just wanted to comment.

EDIT

Okay it looks like I'm going to have to clarify a few things since people seem to be taking what I said out of context.

So let me try again.

Yes I am complaining about the boxes that games came in; no I am not a trolling. I am also not talking about those consoles from over a decade ago so retro console fans you guys can relax.

I didn't bother going over the million other reason as to why I hate consoles so much because I didn't think I had to but now it looks like I might have to.

So what is a PS4 and what is an Xbox one.

To me a PS4 is just as slightly better PS3 what does it do that even remotely interesting or new. All Sony really did was sell it on the bases that's it's not as bad as the xbox. The systems themselves might be cheaper then a PC but a console gamers do not live a cheaper life. Studies have shown that console gamers spend far more money then PC gamers do. There is no master race nonsense here. Console gamers are being had that's all there is to it.

In today age consoles are like VHS and have no reason to exist at all. They are only regretted to work for a year and will probably break down before the new system is out. Exclusive are not a benefits to the consumer but to the manufacture of the console.

In short what is the point of spending so much money on a box to plug into a TV and can be dwarf by a half decent PC.

The main reason I talked about the DVD cases is because, I was surprised at just how cheep and these companies are and how many short cuts they will take.

PC games did come in flimsy card bored boxes yes, but that you held with things. They are more frail I'm telling you. Much like that box you call a console which will probably over heat and die before the new one comes out.
The fucking shitty ass DVD rip off cases are what made me quit games
avatar
danteveli: Your point is that the boxes are bad( like Pc games are in different boxes.) Thats just your opinion and has nothing to do with being disrespectful towards anyone.
avatar
Magmarock: Okay when you charge $99 for a game put it into a case that doesn't protect it, and then charge for scratch protection, you don't think that's kind of a middle finger. Especially when you look at the plastic quality of the previous generations games. Point being, is that consoles, from their DRM to their over heating to even the cases that the DVD's come in can't be trusted.
Point being you are a silly person and thats that.

You went to one shop and based on their prices and practices decided about consoles being pathetic.
Then basing on your posts in this topic I can (rightfully) assume you are uneducated kid not able to express properly.

And that console casualization talk is just another super silly way of all them PC Masters masturbating. If consoles are responsible for games being easier then you and you frickin' master race have lost the war and no one besides you cares about PC. Its that or you are too stupid and know nothing about console gaming and just repeat the same talk based on the way you think about few big budget games.

Not true. The 360 was U$399 at release for the premium version and U$299 for the arcade version.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_launch

"Most games will last you around 5 hours". Now, where did you take that from? Not every game is COD, you know? And even then, people do not buy COD for the SP campaign, they buy it for MP. Not to mention that these "5 hour games" are also released on PCs, which makes your point even more stupid than it already it.

Anyway, time to stop feeding the troll.

That's arguable. PCs need to be upgraded during a console's life cycle to keep running the most recent games. The Xbox 360 was released in 2005. I really doubt a PC built in 2005 can run modern games.

"Paying a good amount less for your games" ? That's very debatable. Sure, consoles don't have "bundles" like PCs do. But consoles have a huge advantage over PCs: the second-hand market. You can both buy and sell your games on the second-hand market. You can't do that on the PC since every game is tied to an online account, be it Steam, Origin or even GOG.

Also, every console has sales on it's digital store. Sure, PSN, Xbox Live and Nintendo's eShop don't have sales as huge as Steam, but they're still pretty good. Last year i bought Super Metroid for the Wii U's Virtual Console for than U$0.95 on a sale, for example.

Since you mentioned the U$50 subscription, i think it's also worth mentioning that you get tons of free games with it, especially on the PS3. The amount of free games you get with your subscription exceeds it's price by far. You can buy a PS3, sign up for PS+ and never buy any games at all. It's a perfectly viable option. Last month, for example, PS+ subscriber got games like Borderlands 2, Bioshock Infinite, Binary Domain and many others for free. Subscribing to PS+ is a good deal even for people who don't like multiplayer.

Of course. I built my machine in 2007, and only now am I starting to feel the need to build a new one. Granted, I've changed the graphics card twice over the past 7 years, in both cases because the old one broke down. Neither time I bought state-of-the-art however. Oh yeah, and I've changed my monitor once in that time as well. That's it. And I've had no problems playing new games in all that time. The only games that are starting to tax it now are ones heavy on the CPU and RAM like Cube World and heavily modded Minecraft.
