Well, you don't need Steam/uplay/Origin or any such crap to install before you play the freaking game with consoles. They are still something more than glorified digital keys. At least, for the time being.

Emob78: That's funny, just yesterday I was considering the idea of buying an old Sega Genesis or SNES... just for cold winter days... and for nostalgia's sake.

I think the console thing sort of peaked around the 16 bit era. It was the last time all the major console makers were putting out equally decent games and hardware, it was the last era when third party devs really had a part to play in the console market. Now everything you see console-wise online or in stores is all EA and maybe one or two other big distributors. The talent has been absconded, the competition isn't there much any more, and frankly, the console audience has been dumbed down to the point of being rage quitting brats with ADD.

If the console crowd continues this way into the future, they'll lose their attention spans altogether and we'll end up with the kind of games we had at the beginning... like PONG. Imagine that, an electronic entertainment industry being so successful at sucking the life juices from their audience that they turned an entire generation of young people back onto the original simple products that got that industry success in the first place.

I suppose we all do come full circle in life, don't we? Well, it's not really full circle... it's just another rotation on the hamster wheel. Another piece of cheese?
You know that the Pc crowd is exactly the same if not the worse right? try playing any online game on PC.

To be honest I dont get all that hating on the consoles and in my mind only reason for that could be envy and that funny pc master race mentality. Especially when people have no idea what they are talking about.

danteveli: I firmly believe you are a joke or just unfunny troll.

This was honestly the dumbest argument against consoles in the history. Oh and by the way console boxes are way better than the stuff PC games come in. Most of new releases on computer are in some kind of cheap plastic and its really sad that once great boxes that I would display are now like some 99 cent dvd.
The last few I got were flimsy little boxes with a CD on it that had no apparent purpose. I still had to install and download from Steam. I quit buying at retail after that (price and package).

EDIT: And about multiplayer - holy smokes yes. I've spent my entire playing time trying to get multiplayer to work several times on PC. But consoles just work. And that's why consoles have their place. I have a few consoles and enjoy them very much. And I love the Kinect in the living room. My whole family enjoys that.

I'm all with you on this one. Public online PC gaming is just as bad as public online console gaming, only with even fewer microphones.

Console hating made sense back in 2004-2006 when publishers figured you could make the same game simultaneously for three different platforms, then it actually had a direct negative impact on PC gaming.
Personally, I think "master race" discussions are pointless and stupid. Playing video games on a computer has advantages and disadvantages over playing them on console, and the other way around is also true. There is no such thing as a better platform, unless you're paying attention exclusively to one of the many factions that make up the video gamer demographic.

I enjoy both PC and consoles, they both have their strengths and weaknesses, PC is great for a more individual experience, whereas console caters best to a living room experience, thus being more gaming-with-friends friendly.

We could argue that consoles ruined the video gaming industry by dumbing down most games, but I don't want to be that elitist grumpy old gamer (which most of us, more often than not, tend to be). There's a place for both PC and consoles, and one isn't better than the other, they offer different experiences for different kinds of gamers. Granted, there hasn't been much difference in titles released on PC and consoles since the 128-bit generation of console machines, most of them are either PC-to-console or console-to-PC ports, but there's always the PC and console specific indie devs that have created some awesome exclusive gems and, well, there's always good old Nintendo, on the console side of things.

[EDIT] typos, commas, stuff.

This console is anything but pathetic.

Magmarock: Please let me be frank and disclose a few things.

I understand if this is preaching to the quire, but I still want to talk about. If you are still a console gamer yourself I have nothing against you personally only against the busyness model you subscribe to.

So I'm not going to go too much into the how the PS4 is just a better PS3 and pointless and I think everything has already been said about the xbox one.

However, what I want to talk about it is the DVD cases of all things. I walked into EB games today and picked up one of the epty cases for the x box one and PS4 and I was surprised to find just how flimsy they are. I mean the 360 and PS3 cases were nothing special but it feels like a warm breath would melt these things. It makes me angry not just the fact that $99 games are sold in these things along with scratch insurance for an extra $5 but the fact that it displays the exact type of attitude this industry has for it's consumer.

I firmly believe that consoles are a waist of everybody's time and both the industry and the consumer base will benefit when these boxes that you plug into your TV to play games are a relic of the past like VHS.

That's my two cents and I just wanted to comment.
So computers that do the exact same thing are also "relics of the past like VHS"?
Phraps I should've said this apply to modern consoles not ones released ten years ago or whatever.

I didn't bother going over what's already been said because... it's already been said. The point was that consoles, have taken another step towards disrespect to the consumer.

Piranjade: Hmmm... I still do enjoy my PS2 and its games from time to time.
But I have to admit that I also did manage to put the games in in a different kind of case.
The PS2 was decent, but I'm mostly talking about modern ones today.
Wow people are either not reading what I'm saying or I've written badly. I'm not trolling I was just emphasizing that the rubbish cases are just another step to consumer disrespect.

And why are people talking about consoles from over a decade ago, do I really need to underline that it's the new ones I'm talking about?

At the end of the day, how pathetic or wonderful the new consoles are will depend entirely on the game libraries they develop; it's no use saying that the PS4 is just a better PS3 if it gets dozens of great games on it, anymore then it's any use praising its hardware if its library ends up sucking*. Only time will tell.

* Oh, PS Vita. I still love you, though.

Your point is that the boxes are bad( like Pc games are in different boxes.) Thats just your opinion and has nothing to do with being disrespectful towards anyone.

Okay when you charge $99 for a game put it into a case that doesn't protect it, and then charge for scratch protection, you don't think that's kind of a middle finger. Especially when you look at the plastic quality of the previous generations games. Point being, is that consoles, from their DRM to their over heating to even the cases that the DVD's come in can't be trusted.

Nooooooo
I'll just share this https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/80908969/Ride%20to%20Hell%200.png

Studies that shown that the average console gamers spends more money then the PC gamer does. To top it off with hand held devices getting better and cheeper consoels have never looked like such an expensive waist of time.

Total or per game?
