I have games on Steam (heh who doesn't) but I am very selective at what I buy because well (I'm being a little unreasonable here so bare with me) most games on Steam and some here are console ports, some broken, and some very unintuitive to mouse and keyboard, and I refuse to use a controller adapter, because imo it devalues the need for mouse and keybord, because why bother getting this port of a console made game on PC when you can get the true experiance on the console which was made for in the first place, it's like why play Starcraft on a console when the true way to play it is on PC or to use an off-topic example, Why buy an Ipad when it's using the same Operating System as the Iphone which is IOS thats my opinion so what do you guys think about this topic.

I think this topic could use a few more periods. And commas, I think. Some Capitalization would be nice too.

If we're gonna bitch about ports, I'll bitch. What truly, fully, gets me is menus! You get crap that has no mouse support (Are you kiddin' me?), no video options, size 300 fonts, and the best of all: a control configuration menu that show a goddamn gamepad and tells you to assign keys to the virtual buttons you see on the screen.

Then of course I should bitch about console exclusive titles (specially when its a sequel to a beloved PC game), but I shall refrain.

Huh? I know of games which don't support rebindable keys (a cardinal sin for any Win/Mac port), but it's the first I've heard of PC ports which don't support the mouse. Which games have done this? And how are you supposed to navigate without it? (Assuming this game isn't a fighting game or arcade shooter.)

Resident Evil 4 is the one I can think of off the top of my head, but he's talking menus with no mouse support.

Exactly I'm only talking about menus (gameplay can almost always be fixed with customizing your key bindings), so you have to go around with your keyboard. I'm not asking for a fully redesigned menu that takes into account the capabilities of a mouse, I'm just talking about making the buttons clickable.

And YES you get games with no mouse input at all. If I remember correctly the Resident Evil PC ports had only the keyboard for input, KONAMI sport games too and plenty of others I'm sure.

a recent bad port of a game skyrim, but luckily bethesda send us a SDK in order to fix the GUI to make it mouse and keyboard friendly ugh a pc port that shows the console controller in the menus!? thats just absolutly lazy they might as well sold us the game through an emulator an example I can think of was the F.3.A.R. port the options menu for controls in that game shows a Xbox 360 Controller lazy, lazy, lazy ,lazy and no SDK for the game either

My worst experience with a console port was The Witcher 2, with its complete lack of mouse wheel support and cumbersome save game system.

I don't remember that being a problem with F.E.A.R. 3, but I have seen it before.

I saw a youtube vid about fear 3 and clearly he was playing the pc version of the game Really, and yet that game was made for PC first though I heard from that the GUI for the game felt like it was made for a Controller and not mouse and keyboard

All of the Oddworld games
Bloodrayne 1 and 2

I'm sure there are others, but those are the ones I know. Of course some of these were bad, but some of these are pretty excellent ports. I for one don't have a huge problem with ports to PC. People complain about them, but also complain when a game stays console exclusive. So long as a game lets me change the resolution, tweak enough settings to get it to run and at least tries to support keyboard controls, I'm happy. Even if they mess up the keyboard controls, I'll grumble but I was planning to play it on a controller anyway.

The keyboard only menu is obnoxious though, and there are some pretty rotten menu systems. Today I was playing FlatOut for a review and the screen to enter your profile name didn't support keyboards. You had to manually select each letter like on a console. I mean, come on.

On the FEAR 3 thing, is it possible the guy in the video the OP saw was playing the PC version with a controller? I actually love it when PC games switch the UI to the Xbox version if you have a controller plugged it.

That's what I was suspecting, but I don't have an Xbox controller and I wouldn't plug it in for an FPS anyway.

It is cool when there is some dynamic changes to the menus though.
