I bought a television so i thought it is time to try my PS3 at last. There is a game i want to play for a long named The Darkness. The atmosphere and game is great but it is a FPS and actually playing a FPS with a controller is a nightmare. It really take away from the game. How can console players play FPS games? And why nearly every FPS game is made for console too? That is astonishing because it is a torture to play them!!
Yeah try playing quake or doom on a ds or tablet.

Aren't there a keyboard and mouse for ps3? https://www.google.nl/#q=mouse+for+ps3
Well for one I suggest lowering the sensitivity if you want to aim precisely.
Gampads look simple but it actually takes a while to build the dexterity necessary to use them effortlessly. Once you have that, FPS designed around a gamepad should present no problem.

Hmm, people on gog use consoles? I'd never touch a console myself with a 10 foot pole.

The Darkness' aiming is abit tricky to get right. I have had that game since launch and still haven't quite gotten it right. :P

grinninglich: Console gamers, how do you play FPS games?
By playing them on a PC. Honestly, even with a TAC3 (WASD + mouse peripheral) for PS3, FPSes don't play will on a console. Of course, you could probably get used to playing with a controller if you dedicated a lot of time to it. Not something I'd rather do when I can easily just play the same game on PC.
I've never had a problem playing FPS on console. I really have no preference to controller or keyboard with shooters.

The same way I play all games, bare ass naked.
Suppose it depends on the game. I've not played The Darkness in any depth, but I never had any problems with it. I have played Killzone 2 in some depth though, and I can honestly say that I can aim just as well with a pad in that game as I can with any WASD+mouse combo on a PC.

I played the N64 GoldenEye a lot. If you think that playing an FPS on PS3 is torture, well, you have not experienced the "joy" of strafing with the c-buttons. Imagine strafing with the nowadays equivalent of the right stick. At any rate, it's doable. Not as good as the PC, but definitely doable.

Yes, it can be quite annoying to do any sort of precise aiming on a console (Manhunt 2 on PS2 comes to mind). I feel FPSs pretty much shifted to the consoles in the X360/PS3 gen. I guess Halo and Modern Warfare are two of the main reasons, since they have been so successful in consoles.

Despite a mouse being awesome though, I have no problem playing well on a N64 (GoldenEye, Perfect Dark). The Z trigger is a delight. Might be that I'm just too used to the controller, tough. With a GC controller on the other hand, even though it's pretty much the most comfortable thing I've ever hold, aiming with the C stick is very hard for me (at least on Time Splitters 2); it has too much dead zone and once past the dead zone it's just too sensitive.

And while it is somewhat a matter of getting familiar with the controls, I will say the Playstation controller is very inferior to the Xbox one when it comes FPS. The asymmetrical sticks on the Xbox gives it a much more natural handle.
I just picked up a PS3 myself, after not owning a console for a very long time. I'm having a lot of trouble aiming with the analogue sticks. If I can't get used to it (which I wasn't counting on anyway), I'll just have to skip the shooty games. There aren't that many that I have much interest in, so no big deal, I guess.

POIDH
Try playing them on an iPad, now there's a device just not made for fast paced FPS action... I DREAM of having a console style controller compared to touch screen controls.
