I agree though I do love FPS, a guilty pleasure.

I'll add one more, RTS. I tried playing a Sega Genesis version of the original C&C. Yeah! That sucked!

But I think there might be a chance for console RTS in the future, if the touchscreens in TVs will be more popular. Don't want to die for that idea, because from the other side touching it all the time might be very tiring.

For the first few years of my life as a gamer, I was PC only. I didn't start playing consoles heavily until I was about nine or ten. It took me a little while to get used to play FPSs, but I eventually got the hang of it. I haven't had a problem ever since. Even when I go a long period playing games almost exclusively on my PC, I still have no trouble playing FPSs (or any other type of shooter) on my Xbox 360.

I guess some people just can't do it. My dad couldn't play a shooter on a console if his life depended on it. He can't get the hang of moving the sticks with any semblance of accuracy.

I have a cheap generic KB/M adapter for 360 when I want to play a FPS on it. Not the best but I get by with it.

Most FPS I play are on PC though.

since the ps3 controller R2,L2 triggers are useless for shooting as they slip off all the time ,so most games including cod map aiming and shooting to R1,L1 still having played fps games on ps3 for 2 years i still find the thing ackward still have not prefected it good enough to disable aim assist or jump to higher difficulties like i do on pc games
as far i know unreal tournament 3 and counterstrike go offer keyboard + mouse support .

If you feel that's a pain, try go through the torture of playing an RTS game on a console. :p

I remember trying that once on the old ps1 with C&C RA. Never again.

or racing games like ea's nfs games on ps3 where the acceleration is perma linked to R2 , thats fine if its small races but , imagine fully pressing R2 forever for lengthy races of 10 miles plus + have to deal with cops and other races , other racing games allow you to map to other buttons but not ea .

Just open your mind and get better, is not hard to play with a controller. I do it all the time and never had any issues with any game, and also millions of others users. You're just too used to play with a keyboard+mouse, that's all.

I aim at head height and open fire. That's the beauty of videogame people their all 6ft.

I play FPS on consoles and PC, if its Darkness 1, the only problem I had initially was getting used to controlling the tentacles to stealth through areas can climb up poles to extinguish light bulbs. Other than that, I can play both platforms with no problems.

On saying that, I do prefer the 360 controller significantly more than the PS3 controller for FPS game, The only FPS games I have on PS3 afaik ad Killzone and Resistance series, because they are PS3 exclusives.

EDIT : The Darkness II game is pretty awesome, great characters and storyline, Tentacles are much easier to control too.

I pretty much agree, it's a torture. I played some FPS or third person ones on the original Xbox. I completed most of the games and otherwise they were fine but the aiming was horrible. Arx Fatalis was one game that I got fed up with because of the aiming although otherwise it was an interesting game. I've tried some games on the X360 and it wasn't much better.

But I'm not a console hater either, I just think the controller is much better suited to other genres.

Kind of runs into the age old argument of gamepad vs mouse/keyboard. I once played the xbox 360 version of shadowrun (it was a first person shooter) and it was one of the few games to offer cross platform ability (people on PC's and 360's could play each other) over windows live. Pretty much anyone with a mouse/keyboard was a force to be reckoned with, even average skilled players. It was such an advantage there was an achievement on the xbox version of the game when you killed 100 PC players (there was no achievement for the PC players for killing 100 console players). For me if I had a choice on an FPS I'm always rocking a mouse/keyboard or mouse/nostromo. Controllers have a slight advantage overall if the game had other functions outside of shooting. (In shadowrun you could assign magic spells buttons on the controller. The controller buttons are much more intuitive than trying to find the key on a keyboard.). Multi button mice mitigate that advantage though and imo are even easier to use than controllers in certain circumstances (such as games like Warframe).

I suppose it all depends if you grew up with consoles and being more accustomed to gamepads. I myself started with atari 2600 joysticks to NES gamepads to somewhat current gen PS3 and xbox 360.

I had gotten used to gamepad controls even if response time was not perfect >_>

As for FPS, I don't really play them much, when I do, I prefer gamepads. RPGs and strategy games on the other hand I prefer keyboard and mouse for PC. Referring to mostly western RPGs/Strategy games. JRPGs is entirely different and mostly console gamepad oriented.
