sk8ing667: This is just another way for corporations to attempt to make money, sue the "literary pirates". Is there really a big difference between this an a library? No late fee?

And everyone can have the book at the same time instead of waiting for their turn.
Also, you're not limited to what your local library carries.

There must be at least one secondhand e-bookshop there, we have a cool one here called Englishbooks, it specializes in secondhand/new-but-damaged books in english. I just ordered 4, and with shipping [prority] ot cost a bit above 24 euro. Some time ago i got Fatherland from that store, dirt cheap, excellent quality, with the only damage being a little bend corner of the cover. ;)
If You don't have anything like that, then You've got Yourself a nice business opportunity!:>

English books aren't that popular where I live though - only close to bigger cities you may find book stores with a small corner for English books. No second hand book stores around either that sell English books. The library has a lot of older English books but we're talking about 50+ year old books!

I love public services, and yes, I do use public libraries and a private from my uni.
But in most of the libraries you can't find specific books (for example the long tail, which is old by now, but I can't find recent tech books among others). If I would buy every single book that I'm interested then I couldn't afford it, that isn't an apology for piracy, no way it is.
It' just a statement that the access to culture and knowledge should be more ACCESSIBLE for everyone, be it by lowering the paper books prices and offering pdfs at a lower price too, all legally purchased.

I'd buy cheaper electronic books for sure.

I read somewhere (granted, it was a Michael Moore book) that in the United States, states are appropriated education funds to spend how they see fit, and libraries fall under the category and states often overlook that and they spend the money on other useless crap instead.

I have a tough time getting into digital reading. Maybe an e-book like a Kindle would get me into it, but I just can't get the brain going with books on the laptop. Something about having all those other distractions on the computer...
This past year or so we've been getting all of our stuff from used book stores. About half price, even for old books that have not yet been through another's hands.
