paladin181: Blizzard... Dem prices doh. They're definitely hoping to make a small fortune on those games.. $20 for the complete Diablo 2?? Psh.
All their shit is overpriced, so they get no $$$ from me(even when I can afford their products). $40 for Diablo III? LOL

Gnostic: Except for the fact if you are continuously offline for 2 weeks, you cannot access your game again unless you go back to online once more
avatar
darthspudius: Well no shit, it is an web based client after all. How dare you have to go online to download your games. Damn those sons of a bitches! People have some strange expectations from an online store.

Unless there is something I have missed, I download the games I want, I run it to make sure it works and turn it offline for a month at a time. No problems at all. None... ever.

Edit: I am being a sarcastic git before someone decides to rant.
I had reading comprehansion problems so I don't know which direction your sarcasm is directed.

So I post my proof anyway so unless they updated that, you cannot be offline for a month and expect your games to work

snowkatt: store page says you need an battle net account though
https://eu.battle.net/shop/en/product/diablo-ii
off course that says nothing but keep it in mind
you will need it only for download the installer but when you download the game is completely DRM-FREE.

grimrhyma: Excited about the blizzard store. anyone know how restrictive the battle.net DRM is (eg: will i need to be online to play?).

unfortuntly I'm not surportive of origin due to the afformentioned drm, and i should imangine square will be the same. but thanks all the same and +1 to all
Modern Blizzard games: Hearthstone, Diablo 3 etc, all require Battle Net to be online.

Older games don't e.g Warcraft 3 or Diablo 2.

You will need to be online to play Diablo III(and it's expansion) and the Starcraft 2 games, no matter what. The other games sold at their store other than WOW, I don't think you need to be online to play them.

Some incompetent person on a forum is not proof. I could have plenty of proof by the fact my laptop has been offline for the past 3 weeks. But even then, before that. My laptop had not been used for 2 months and loaded steam happily in offline mode afterwards. (I only use it at work)

The only time I have heard of this actually being a problem is when the program failed to save the credentials on your computer but that was a bug from a patch, which was sorted after a few days.

Ok how about direct infomation from valve itself?

Like I said earlier I do not know if they had updated that or not, but I face that problem in the past myself.
did they do away with the old authentication system?

Guess I have to fire up my steam to verify that offline mode works now. Which could take weeks to test.............

beats me, my laptop constantly runs on offline mode and I have never seen this problem. But saying that I have the common sense to update it every now and again. But considering the stupid shit people like to complain about it was probably that little patch bug I mentioned and some moronic DRM free crusader took it personally as they do.

But realistically, the chances of going so long without a possible connection is slim. I could plug my laptop into my phone for a connection if it was THAT big of a deal.

Edit: Again, Steam Forums and Kotaku aren't exactly the best sources.

Diablo 2, Starcraft and Warcraft III do not require an online connection aside the initial download. Once you download it, you can just back it up and it works like a charm, with or without those pesky internets.

Gnostic: I heard that for the PC for diablo 3 is always online DRM, while the console version is offline

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/09/07/oh-hell-no-offline-for-diablo-iii-pc-despite-consoles/

It looks like every big publisher is going the AODRM route.

That lead me to vote with my wallet on crowdfunding and stop buying from big publisher
Yeah... about that crowdfunding=No AODRM thing... not happening. Take a look at Elite:Dangerous. It's a kickstarter game, and it now requires an internet connection to play single player. Sure, it's just one example, but if I'm aware of an example for a game that I don't even own, I'm sure there are quite a few more. Honestly, if the laptop I am using now could actually play Elite: Dangerous, I would buy it. It looks amazing. Klink would get me through.
