So, as if Gog isn't good enough (it is) I still wonder if someday they'll offer Commodore 64 and Amiga games. Back in the day, I had those computers... it wouldn't be till well after that era that I'd finally have a PC... I skipped DOS altogether.
So, yeah, that's where my nostalgia really lies, and indeed some commodore games were not identical to their PC versions. Yeah, I know, there are "other ways" but if we cared about that we wouldn't be at Gog. It'd be nice to play legal copies of many of them again, in the exact form (sound, graphics, etc) that I remember. Admittedly, they often lacked mouse support and some games had control schemes as a result that were... bad? But I still miss the days.
Anyone else willing to pay for Commodore nostalgia? ;)

As far as I know - AmigaForever is the only way to legitimately get the KickStarter ROM - which would be required for Amiga Emulation. Not sure about other Commodore systems.

The kick ROMs in Amiga Forever are encrypted. Defender of the Crown for iOS is an Amiga ROM wrapped in an emulator, including some DRM-free kick ROMs.

Well I know Lionel Ritchie is on board for a reunion but I'm not even sure any of the other guys are still alive.

Unfortunately Amiga seems like it's going to be a pain in the ass to clear, but I'm not sure what the hold up about Commodore 64 games would be. The VICE emulator is free under the GNU license just like DOSBox and I don't recall any trouble getting the Windows version to run for me, and from there it would be about securing rights to the games, yes? Or no - I'm not a lawyer so the finer details may elude me.

The Amiga rights are owned by Hyperion (with licensing rights to Cloanto for pre v4), and the Commodore brand is owned by Commodore Holdings Corporation, formerly known as Asiarim (effective from 2011)

Being able to buy games here made for other computer systems would ROCK but I think that's gonna be a long way's off if at all. I know I'd love to have Amiga stuff on here for their superior soundtracks (seriously, listen to the music from the DOS version of Waxworks and then the Amiga version and try telling me the DOS one is better; YOU CAN'T).

But there's more besides the Commdore and Amiga of course. In addition there's the Amstrad, the ZX Spectrum, Acorn Archimedes, Atari ST, PC-60, PC-80, PC-98, FM Towns, X1, X68000, and the list. Goes. On. Before the current Microsoft and Apple monopoly there were SO MANY COMPUTER SYSTEMS. It's mind-blowing. Most of the ones I mentioned though were Japan-only though, still there were things of interest for Western gamers like the LucasArts titles released on the FM Towns which many (at least in the cases of Loom and Zak McKracken) to be the superior versions of those titles.

Probably the best thing to do would be for someone to attain the rights to individual exclusives for these systems and do "HD remakes" or something or another. Then find some way to include the original versions to be compatible with modern computers. I dunno the whole thing's a mess. A fascinating mess, but a mess all the same.

Hmm not nostalgic, I grew up with an Amstrad CPC 6128 but still.. Seen some of them C64 in the Nintendo Wii store not too long ago, going at ridiculous prices of 3€ to more for each.. WTF!

Expecting those on GOG for 5.99$ which would equal ripping off too, is the same kind of bad joke, IMHO.

Truth is, some things are better left where they are, in the past.. This is archeo-gaming and not welcome at GOG, thank you very much.

Rather use an emulator and abandonware, the taboo things, to have your fix than spend money on over-dated material which have very little appeal anymore as a market business, ANYWAY.

Nitpick:
It can't be a monopoly, if it involves two competing companies.

And why those companies became so popular, was exactly the fact that there were so many computers, which weren't at all compatible. Microsoft and Apple offered standardized platforms (with backward compatibility), so that's why people chose them instead of yet another model of Commodore or Atari.

But back to the point:
Some of those older computers where really awesome and had some great games. They should all be preserved by means of legal emulation.
