"Play all your favorite 8-bit era games within seconds of turning the Commodore 64 on, by either selecting the C64 icon from the boot menu to run a C64 emulator directly, or from a media center program within our own Commodore Operating System."

To bad it costs so much.. =(
It's just a netbook with some C64 emulation software on it. Emulation software I might add that isn't included as it's not ready yet.

You would be better off buying a C64.

it would better if they just sold the software! But yea, completely agree.

It's not like C64 emulation software is hard to find.
Looks very much like this.

I wonder if there is a connection. I had thought about doing it myself with my dead C64, but the emulator on my Mac or PC works just as well for the 15 minutes of nostalgia that hits me a couple times a year.
I want it. But I'll wait until they've finished work on the Commodore OS.

From the site:

Note: Commodore OS 1.0, along with emulation functionality and classic game package, will be mailed to purchasers when available. In the meantime, units come with the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS operating system on CD ready to install.
Well it can do a lot more than play classics. But yes, you are paying over the odds for the case. I could get a much more powerful computer for under £200, and that's pre-built.
It's not a C64. Why would anyone want this?
I'm glad i still have a working C64 here, connected to the TV [which sadly, my brother intends to take away, since, he's the TV owner]. Beats the crap out of the emulation anyday. ;)
Commodore OS will also be classic Commodore compatible, able to run classic 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit era software via emulation.
Well, yes. Using emulation, any OS is "classic Commodore compatible".

Edit: Incidentally, I just saw a news story about the new C64 on Danish TV :-O

C64 Forever is a pretty good C64 emulation package (and it's rather affordably priced too).

Exactly, though I'd take emulation on a system that looked and felt like the original over simply playing it on my regular PC. The lack of real floppies and cartridges kinda ruins that feeling a bit, however.

Having used both the original, and a free c64 emulator, I'd have to go with the emulator. I mean, the actual c64 is a nice and all, but nearly instant loading times rather than having to wait 30 seconds at every transition, or shuffle and flip over floppy disks, is just too nice to pass up. :)

Yeah, I don't really get it either. Pretty weird.

For me, it was the fuzz of the PSU and the warmth of the sound. [and no, i don't use squeakers on my PC].
While tapes and floppies (i was never a fan of carts, they reminded me of that thing my friend had, called Pegasus, a NES clone) are also a nice thing, sometimes, adjusting the bloody head on the more fatigued tapes is a chore. So i dream the impossible.

Somehow, i doubt this wolf in sheeps clothing has the C= feel, it seems more like a waste of a nice case. ;)

No emulation, no hires PDFs, no insta-loads will bring You those stomache butterflies.

Depends what makes You tick, i guess, for me, it's just a small comfort, for a sizable price.
I kinda like the wait, i was raised on load errors, i guess that might've taught me some patience. ;)
Anyhow, the above mentioned device does the same, while maintaining the feel.
It's kinda like a inflatable Finally Miley, sure, You can undress her in 5 minutes, and be on Your way, but she's still made of rubber, and makes squeaky noises.
Oh wait, the original does the same. ;P
