Would love to see the original Command and Conquer and red alert on GOG. I know it's technically abandonware and free, but it's so difficult to get the game working on windows 7. A decent GOG style .exe would be most appreciated! I love how balanced the original C&C was! : )

Technically it is Freeware... and you can write to EA to release it on GOG :)

And it doesn't work, i do it everyday:(
Or, you could rip the CDs into ISOs, and learn to use DOSBox the way GOG does. Except without the fancy repackaging of the files :)

Abandonware is not the same thing as free. All abandonware means is that it is no longer sold or supported, but it is still protected by the very same laws that protect brand new games, and it is just as illegal to download abandonware (though the owners are less likely to come after you if you do download abandonware, as they usually no longer care about the games).

Though if all you want is to play the old Command & Conquer games, then EA is still offering them for free, and they can still be downloaded from their servers:

Yeah, but Red Alert 2, bundled with Yuri's Revenge, DRM free and for 10$ on GoG... That would be AWESOME...

Right, so throw it up on the Community Wishlist......I'd vote it up, even though I am rubbish at most RTS' :)

If your having problems with C&C running in Win 7 you could check out this patch

The Win95 versions of Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert were better though, what with higher resolutions giving a larger viewing area and improved images in the building/unit sidebar. There are some efforts to get these games up and running with ports though:

Don't know if there's a working one for C&C Red Alert though, that allows the single player campaigns to be played.
You know, now that I think about it, I think a GOG-packaged version would be a tad better. At least then, troubleshooting would be an order of magnitude easier :)

I wonder if EA would care if GOG made it a freebie, though.....

You could also find the Command & Conquer: The First Decade in Wal-mart still, iirc. It contains C&C 1, C&C 2, RA1, RA2, Renegade, Generals, plus all the expansion packs. Since the game itself is still being sold in some form, it's not abandoned.
You could download C&C and C&C Red Alert for free 2 years ago from Command&Conquer.com and the westwood web pages

I think if you search in google a few pages still have links to the page

I have it in the 10th anniversary DVD so i never tried it

It would be nice for GOG to have it but being as its been offered free and its EA Im doubting it will happen
