People were outraged when they heard the newest game in the long-running series had to be connected to the internet at all times. How would LAN happen? As it turns out, LAN won't be happening, because it won't be an option.
Couldn't they have waited to do this until I was OUT of college? I was looking forward to college LAN parties, because people tell me they're spectacular.

Does anyone play via LAN anymore? I'm honestly asking, because this really doesn't affect anyone I typically game with or hang around with.
I do, with my good friends on a regular basis. Though we don't actually play C&C3 LAN, but we still hit a few rounds of Generals quite frequently.

Generalz pwnz them C&C3 nubz
Honestly, I'd be more surprised if an upcoming release did have LAN support. Like dedicated servers, LAN support prevents publishers from having the final say for many aspects of the online experience (especially its termination), and they absolutely hate that. They will try to rationalise this by explaining that it is due to the threat of piracy and/or to allow global stat tracking across all matches, but their true motive--total control of online play--is much less noble and holds no benefits for players.
Every time I think PC gaming can't get any worse, we get more bad news. Gah. It's becoming more and more like a console every day.

Many of my friends have just started lanning again, I think they're actually playing Starcraft. I am presently working away from home (in your country!), but if I was, I'd definitely be trying to get in on some LAN action (anyone in Vancouver who is having a LAN? Let me know!).
LAN gaming is so great that even console gamers are getting in on the action.

Yeah, whenever a company rolls out a patch that breaks some game mechanics or makes thing worse, I like to stay with an old version. With LAN I can do that, provided my friends don't update the game or anything. Now my freedom to do what I want is definitely restricted.
wait
candcfour will require constant internet connection even with single player?

Yes that was announced nearly as early as the game itself. I don't remember the exact excuse for it thouh, i think they said it was because the new gameplay mechanic was so close to a multiplayer only game that it made no sense having an offline mode... but don't quote me on that, I stoped listening after the "must be online for single player" part...

No LAN for me, but I am in Vancouver for some gaming. :)
Would be cool to organize any kind of tourney.

With LAN or not, this game will suck. Beta and gameplay is really shit. Make GENERALS 2 god damn it.

Very nice way of fucking C&C, indeed. I think there will be so many room for the indie game scene on the PC in the upcoming future, and after my experience with VVVVVV and Zombie Driver I'm looking forward to see the major labels (Activision, Ubisoft, EA, all of them) finally go fuck themselves and leave the PC alone.
