Well, just when I thought EA was finally changing it's ways and becoming the good company... they dropped a colossal poopy on the veteran C&C fans. Just... god is this new game bad. Pretty much, they removed the fun of the C&C series by removing all resources, base building, skill, strategy and fun. Everything in the game seems as if it's a joke. EA just proves that their C&C games get worse as time progresses. C&C3 was a Battle For Middle Earth mod basically, while Red Alert 3 was... just... awful. Now this "grand finale" to the series is like... a colon explosion. http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/commandandconquer4 Read the user reviews rather than the paid off critics. (1UP also isnt blind apparently.)
My favorite is the still the very first (and Tiberian Sun)
Maybe it's a good thing the series has come to an end :| ... I miss westwood
They never have been a 'good company'.
I saw the endings for the GDI and Nod. SUCKS.
Other than some silly camera angle changes the two were the same. So no thank you, EA can shove it.
It is sad to see the series reach this low. Loved the original upto red alert 2. After that the series started to decline. Generals was ok but Red Alert 3 i thought was bad now Tiberium wilight makes it worse. The single player game is bad really bad. The class system might look ok on paper but the actual gamplay i just find your reduced to a few units and that is. Give me back huge tank battles where you had to keep on your toes.
Oh well hope they put the series to rest now.

Apparently most critic reviews are bad too. I guess EA "slipped up" this time, and by "slipped up", I mean "forgot to pay their bills".
Very disconcerting to see yet another classic game series go down the toilet due to bad design choices specifically targeted at easing the console experience.
Seems we just can't get a good RTS anymore these days. Supreme Commander 2 is junk, C&C 4 is shit, Red Alert 3 is utter cockgobbling garbage. What's next in line?
More and more eagerly awaiting Starcraft II now. Probably be the only decent RTS since 2005.
We also see some of the problem with official reviews here. Out of a maximum of 10, the review average is 6.9, but the user average is an appalling 2.9. Would you buy a game that most fellow gamers rated at below 3/10? I thought not.

EA were a *very* good company back in the day. And by day, I mean when 8-bit computing was still the way to go.
As for C&C, I thought these new ones were always meant to be a piss-take. Of course, EA don't want to sell them to me, so I can't say for sure.

I disagree:

..And I loved Dawn of War 2 and expansion, we could argue for some time, really :D Thou CoH was awesome as well...
And I can't get enough evony...
Just watched the first mission of C&C4 on youtube and I've been fully turned off.
The cinematic, whilst a vast step up from the "war, lol!" level of red alert 3 were still average and the addition of a mute protagonist which is a debateable proposition in an interactive medium just serves as a repeated wrecking ball hitting the fourth wall.
The gameplay sadly seemed no different than tiberian sun which was good for its era but that era is gone. The units still snap to diagonals, they still move on a very obvious grid and most damning of all, grouped units still try to occupy the exact same space in violation of both the laws of physics and of good game design.

I played one mission in RA3, and re-boxed the game. Totally unplayable. I'm not even going to touch C&C4. at all.
Never like Generals.
C&C3 was garbage - about the only decent thing in it was the Ion Cannon animation, and that wasn't anywhere near worth £35. Or playing the complete game.
Thankfully I still have TibSun and Covert Ops to waste a few hours with in how games USED to be ^_^

That was similar to my experience with generals, godawful shite. The final straw was the 6th(?) chinese mission, a special forces thing where I literally beat the mission with 2 mouse clicks
I read a review about it yesterday which seem to draw the right conclusion:
They stated EA borrows from other games in the series to create a game that's not true to it's predecessors.
Only to be able to release it prior to Starcraft 2 which could very well be the best game in the genre in years.

You have that mixed up. The Battle for Middle Earth was a C&C: Generals mod. As for RA3 I found it highly enjoyable personally. The only thing preventing me from buying C&C4 is their baffling decision to change the gameplay mechanics. TBH it's just not C&C anymore.
