I would like to have the first of the series, if it is possible. thanks.
Several of the earlier instalments of C&C have been released as freeware. I don't have any links handy, but google should find them for you.

To kick the their anniversary celebration, EA has provided the original Command & Conquer Gold as a free download, compatible for Windows XP! This is the same version included with the collectors pack Command & Conquer: The First Decade, and is now available for you to download for free!

Red Alert 2 is legally available here:

Might be a little difficult to get them to run on modern OS's. Havent tried to play the old C&C's in a few years.
If you want to play the original C&C this is good place to go to:

It has just about everything in one nice package. Fixes, extra music, mission pack missions, higher resolutions etc.

Link looks suspicious. Can you tell me what this is?
I don't recall Red Alert 2 ever being released as freeware. Only C&C, RA, and TS have been to my knowledge.

How is it suspicious looking? it's xwis.net... and it links to an appropriately named exe. The only thing suspicious is that oigroig has been here for over a year and has over 100 reputation yet doesn't know enough html to arrange his tags properly. It links right back to this page. -_-;

Xwis is basicly the people that are running all of the old C&C's server operations. With the go ahead from EA. Hell the people from Xwis blacklisted the server i played Renegade on from the general Renegade pool because the shit face Admin of the server was DDoSing the other servers. There is absolutely nothing suspicious about Xwis or the link.

And yeah. I believe RA2 (not sure if YR was ever made freeware) was made freeware around the time RA3 released. But EA has since pulled all their Freeware links to the files, only way to find the Freeware releases are though the community sites.

To the OP. Do you know about the Ultimate Collection thing EA are getting ready to release? Comes with absolutely EVERY C&C to date with Win7 compatibility as well as a bunch of other stuff. Here's a link:

So, if EA pulled their links is it technically still freeware? (Not that it matters to me :P)

*shrugs* No idea. I still have my The First Decade disks and if the community sites have links to the files and EA hasnt said anything about it in the last few years then i guess they dont care. Strangely EA is still pretty active with the C&C community so im pretty sure if it was a problem they would have said something by now.

That's my general feeling on the subject. I'm sure the more legal minds here would make the case that it isn't technically legal since EA pulled the download links, but it'd be naive to think that they aren't aware of the fact that the freeware ISOs are still out there.

It's my general assumption that they just don't care, and wisely believe that there are enough people there who don't want to bother going through the process of getting their existing copies to work on Vista/7. It wouldn't surprise me if GOG's model in part led them to the notion of reselling the C&C games with modern OS compatibility being a major selling point.

Yeah, but only skirmish and online play. No campaigns... Also, it doesn't work on Win7. At least not for me :(
