Danger ahead!

Spelunky, a fun but very unforgiving platformer with procedural level creation, dynamic and diverse gameplay, and charming 2D graphics, is coming soon to GOG.com!

In Spelunky, you'll be exploring ancient temples, caves, and ruins so packed with deadly monsters and traps, that virtually every step you take without dying is a cause to feel good about your gaming skills. Where is danger, there also are rewards! The underground is full of forgotten treasures, gleaming gold nuggets, and shiny gems. Get the loot, escape the traps, beat the beasts, and rescue the damsel in distress (or a boy, cause they get in trouble just as much!). If you want to feel like a daring archaeologist/adventurer and you're not afraid of any danger, this game will feel like a dream come true.

Spelunky will be coming your way next Thursday (August 8), but you can start practicing your treasure-hunting skills today! Spelunky was initially released on the PC as a small freeware game, with the same amount of challenge as the upcoming modern version, but not as much depth and simplistic graphics. If you want to get a taste of spelunking action, the classic freeware version can be downloaded on the gamecard (the link's right above the "coming Aug. 8" notice).

Have fun with Spelunky Classic and expect even more special spelunking features on GOG.com before the new Spelunky comes!

DarkoD13: Did something happen to the freeware link?
It's still there and it still works for me. It's on the gamecard, just above where you'd normally click to buy the game. You may have to refresh the page if nothing's showing up.

Link works. What kind of problem are you having with it?
This is my most anticipated GOG release right now. Well, that and the immensely fun-looking RoTT remake.

All those "new games on GOG was a terrible idea" people can take a hike, as far as I'm concerned. =P

Sorry for the delay. I assume it's where it says "try the original freeware version", right?
I get nothing when I hover the mouse over the area. Clicking doesn't do anything either. I'm using Firefox, I'll try another browser later.

In fact, I can't even highlight any of the words in that white box.

EDIT: I tried Chrome. The link is there and works fine, but in my Firefox browser there's just no link.

EDIT 2: I was missing the latest update for Barefoot Essentials, the link works fine now.

Hello, I just want to inform you guys that the freeware version of Spelunky does not show up in my list of games while the other freeware games such as War§ow, BASS or Lure of the Temptress can be "bought" so they show up on my list of games.

I just wanted to ask if you guys are thinking about "adding" such a feature as this game is pretty awesome and everyone who wants it should have this on their own list. It seems wrong for me to exclude one of the prime examples of a good "newer" freeware game from such a list.
Awesome! Redownloading the freeware. Time to die a hundred of times more :D This will go on my wishlist :P

It isn't added to the list of games, it's just linked on the Spelunky 2012 page.
Yay for Spelunky.

Bigs: Also kinda sucks that the Daily Challenge is Steam only - I'm torn between DRM free and having access to the daily challenge ><
Yeah. I wish the GOG version would allow us to at least opt into the daily challenges. :/
Thanks for the link to the freeware version, it is nice to have a free sample :)

Yeah, which is why I said it would be awesome to have this game on our shelves aswell.

Of course it's nothing of importance, but it would still be a nice thing to have.

And what about people who have missed this game? I mean GOG has a few Freeware games to give when people create an account and you can list them by using the filter. But on this particular game people actually have to be interested in the "true" version of the game in order to download the freeware version.

I hope you understand what I mean since I don't want to make an issue out of it because it isn't really one. It just would be nice :)!
Oh god, oh goooood. It has come back to haunt me.

Link works fine with my FF.

Tried the original version, but didn't get on with it too well (using a keyboard).

Wonder if the new version will be any better for me ( I really suck at platform games)
I really like the link to the original version and hope it sticks around once the full game is released, and maybe appears for other titles in similar situations (Zork: TUU?)! Though I can imagine that might be a fuss for GOG to maintain...

I think it has to do with Barefoot Essentials. I deactivated it and the link suddenly appeared. I assume you don't have the script installed?

EDIT: Got it, I didn't have the latest update for Barefoot Essentials, the link works fine now.
