Two great games are on their way to GOG.com - the grim, gritty Iron Storm and the funny, fast MegaRace 3.
Iron Storm is a 3D first-person shooter with a unique storyline. It is the year 1964 and, after 50 years, the First World War grinds on with no end in sight. It has consumed countless lives and resources and has even reached the stock market, where various parties make fortunes speculating on the deaths of others... MegaRace 3, on the other hand, is a futuristic racing game, featuring the eccentric, wise-cracking host - Lance Boyle. Unlike in its predecessors, this time you pilot miniaturized vehicles, each with an attack, speed and defense mode, in weird locations, like a garden, inside a tree or within a living body.
Iron Storm is pretty average. Not worth $9.99, IMO. Better to save your money for when (hopefully) Sniper Elite shows up.
Yup, Iron Storm is pretty average, but hey, all games are welcome in GOG!
Considering that I can play every other shitty FPS and still have a great time, I might get Iron Storm.
Legendary, for example, I had a great time with. Though I utterly despised Red Faction 2, but that was because of the disappointment after the original RF which was a master piece.
Anybody know what engine this game is made on? On first glance it looks like the Half-Life engine.
Anyway, maybe ... I tend to enjoy FPS's in general, even those that nobody else seems to like.
I managed to get Iron storm free when I purchased Haegemonia at retail. Didn't even know that it was included; it was promoted with a tiny sticker about the size of my thumbnail on the corner of the box.
I do remember a number of local PC mags getting excited with "It's a NEW ENGINE!" screams of joy. Difficulty is a little on the high side to others at the time, and the release I had required me to do a lot of key-remapping to play it well enough.
I never finished it though. There is one stage, where after trekking down a concrete valley and to the edge of a collapsed bunker, the next direction is not clear, and a tank-with-a-sniper-turret annoying tank would blast you. A few earlier loads from saved games, the same situation. Eventually I gave up! I've got some more patience nowadays, but that memory remains.
Not a crap FPS, but probably not your first choice.
Oh come on guys... <I'm not writing this because it's to defend my company but rather because I was the one responsible for play... testing this title> Of course that nowadays you can play FarCry 8 and Duke Nukem Forever but I'll tell you one thing. Iron Storm is one of those Good Old Games that when you try to find players on public servers not only those servers are there but also there are players whom you can pwn or get pwned by. :) Not to mention the joy of ripping enemy soldiers to sherds with hand grenades or making them dizzy and/or dead by poisonous gas. :D
And if that's not enough there are other features. As it is a one-way game it's up to the player which turns he takes - by that I mean that you can play this game for a second time and still have some sport. No super bosses from hell here - you might face swarms of enemies or tactically difficult situations but not oversized potatoes wearing impenetrable armour and a gun that fires death. Also the feel of the Great War and the non-cliché story with interesting ending... What can I say? It worked like a charm on my machine and I had much fun testing it. And while testing multilayer we were rebuked for being over-joyful. :P

What's the game's engine?
IRONSTORM uses the PHOENIX 3D engine by 4X Technologies.

Tirpitz: *Snip*

I just noticed the gibs...
Oh, the joy of shredding the polygonal structures of pixelated people to pieces of digital meat!
Yeah, I'm a bit macabre when it comes to stuff like this.
Anyways, I actually have been looking for a new FPS to just cause some mayhem lately, so this might be it.
Don't think I've heard of this game, and although Im sure the gameplay might not be up to what I am used to nowadays, the story and settings seems interesting enough that I think I will have to get this one.
I keep buying and collecting games from gog yet barely play them, so I don't see why I can't keep it up :D
Fuck, no Splinter Cell.
Ah, Iron Storm the spiritual predecessor to Bet On Soldier. Which sucked.

Which version is Iron Storm? The original or the 2005 release "World War Zero"? AFAIR, original release was VERY bugged. What about this one?

World War Zero has AA and AF and widescreen support, as well as everyone's favorite thing to hate, BLEWM. I don't remember it being that buggy though. If it is the WWZ version, I will be happy, but not happy enough to buy this.
MegaRace 3 sounds like a definite buy.

I quite liked Iron Storm. Nice scenario, not too realistic and not to outlandish.
On the other hand it was really extremely hard.
I might consider to buy it if it is the newer version.
