jamyskis: Because as far as online is concerned, console games - at least those on disc - are DRM-free. Sure, they've got copy protection on the disc, but the publisher then has no control over how you play that game after the fact. I have all my games for the PS1 even today that still work without a hitch, and I shudder when I think that if I had bought them from a digital distributor like Steam, I'd end up having to buy it again, and again, and again, simply because the publisher sees me as a money tree. I really don't have a problem paying a bit more for a game if it means I have a better value proposition as a result.
I agree with everything. Except:
- Nice that your PS1 still works, but since it is a closed ecosystem emulating it is much harder than windows, but i guess it has been done. and then xbox one is a pc with windows light + a custom gui :)
- gog games have **no** drm. and steam games are easily cracked... just dowload the crack fom gcw. or a complete steamrip via torrent... after all if you own the game it's legal (well here anyway)...
jamyskis: Strategy games really don't interest me all that much. The only PC exclusives that generally interest me are 2D platformers and RPGs, which is why Original Sin was the first game to spark my interest in ages.
ahh here we have the main differentiator... see, i'm only interested in rpg/strategy & occasional rally sim...
jamyskis: Also, my time is limited, and I've spent a seemingly endless amount of time trying to fix stuff on my PC, time which I no longer wish to waste.
true, but since windows 7 + gog i haven't had to do that... my time is very limited too, yet i seem to churn easily through 20 games a year... so not really playing any game for a long time....
jamyskis: As for 4K, well, if you can show me a set-up for under $1500 that can actually run games satisfactorily at 4K, and if you can show me an example of a game that would actually benefit from 4K on anything under a 55" TV, I'd be amazed...
Today it's quite hard. But even today i actually do, Supreme Commander / Planetary Annihilation being two games i run at 4K on a box for $950. Plus $400 for that seiki 39" 4K screen. True at 30 fps it's not for action games but for strategy games its perfect. It's mainly about immersion so i sit about 40cm in front of it... Now i'm waiting for that >80" 4K tv for less than $2000 :)
