Piranjade: The backers who could get their GOg keys have downloaded the game and are playing. So it seems that an installer that works on GOG exists already.

haydenaurion: So there is an old style installer for D:OS? Then why on Earth has the game been delayed on GOG for non-backers?
Well that's the million dollar question.

The game needs gog client for full multiplayer options so if they sold the game now in an unfinished state in comparison to steam version - no real multiplayer at the moment in gog version - they probably could not demand the same price for it as if they sell it with gog client (gog has no early access option) that will have probably same multiplayer features as steam and will crossplay with steam. I think this is the crux of this story really.

The game probably won't need the client for the single player but its needed it for full multiplayer.

That's exactly the 1 million dollar question!

It was said that they want to release the game for all to buy when it is ready WITH GOG Galaxy, at the end of August.

Actually scratch 1 million dollars more like forty dollars.

Piranjade: I've heard TET is still with GOG until August, he's just on holidays right now?
He says on his blog that he is free from August but last time he posted was April the 30th I think.
So as I reckon it, his contract is running out through May, June and July but he is not with the company anymore.
Here, 3 months are standard period before contract expires after termination of contract, so I suppose it's the same with him.

Icinix: I read an article from Sven after the launch of Dragon Commander (fantastic genre blender if you haven't played it - one of the most underrated games in the last few years) and how pro - day 1 patch he was - and how for future they would focus on digital distribution and get physical copies out at a later date.

If it all comes to pass that public release happens with Galaxy - I wouldn't be surprised that your comment is on the money.

Reaper9988: It would be silly for GoG to accept this though. The whole optionality part of the presentation which made the Idea actually great would be out of the window.
It would be beyond silly, it would be beyond ridiculous.

Which is why I doubt it - and I still believe we'll see D:OS available to the public on GOG before the week is out.

...I just wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong either....

Rincewind81: This is just putting one and one together. It is about money...

And when we talk about money. The usual share between the developer and the store is 70:30. So GOG will take the same share. If they compensate every european buyer who pays 26% more than an american this will be a heavy impact. They did this for Age of Wonders because they need to react quickly, they do this with the Witcher because they get all the money and can afford it, but that is it. Regional pricing for now is pretty dead, so the delay instead. Most of the games are sold right at release and in the weeks after that. And Larian will get the most out of every buyer. And after that GOG can sell the game "fair priced" for less...
This is unlikely as big an issue as you think. With the compensation games costing GOG about 70% of the compensated games, the regional profit they get from the EU version vs having sold it in $'s already covers most of the games compensation. At best they make a tiny loss. And that is only for the compensated sales. The non-compensated sales will still make them 30% profit per copy.

Considering Steam's sales stats are about 40% US, 40% EU, 20% rest, and that GOG would have a similar share the profits from the US sales of the game still makes them easy profit on the game.

fe79: Seriously, the only response we should need to hear from you guys on an issue like this one is "The problem has been fixed".
Have to agree here - the problem is still present and fixing it should be an absolute priority (as in "hold back new releases or updates until this problem is identified and resolved"). If the cause is not immediately obvious, then hack the URLs in the account page or provide both sets (with and without the /file/ subfolder) as a workaround.

Yep, that makes this "delay" even more baffling.

amok: the exclusivity is a rumor and an ill-informed one as well. Valve do not like exclusivity deals, and encourage publishers to put their game on as many platforms as possible.
A regional publisher / distributor might have required it. Perhaps the same assholes who demanded regional pricing.

But that's kind of not cool for people who don't care about multiplayer and just want to play it solo.

I don't like it, this way GOG is losing sales to Steam, something I think everyone should want to prevent.
Will you release a official statement on the front page to alert non-forum goers.
