Icinix: As Millian wrote - Steam version does work fine independant of Steam - however - as others have mentioned it ain't the prettiest way to play. Raptr was like - nah man, you ain't playin' nuthin. Xfire was like - the devil you trying to do? ..and I wasn't game enough to try my kickstarter code incase it locked it to the Steam installed game (which will be nuked once GOG version is available).

Also - fantastic music. Just fantastic.

@Ganni1987 - yeah the steam_api.dll file is there.
Thanks for the reply.

Second question if I may please. Can you try removing the file from the game's folder and run the game, I would like to know what happens.

Lord_Britania: When this feeling happen, i take my starcraft box and just take the manual. It's just a RTS, but the manual is so thick it could stun an horse
avatar
Icinix: My thickest that I know of - is Star Wars Rebellion (or supremacy in Europe I think) - that thing is so thick I often mistake it for a highly decorated brick... AND the game came with an poster with all the ships and their numbers. That right there was quality manualship.
In better case we get a physical piece of paper folded into 4 (yes i'm looking at you wiiU games), in worst case not even a pdf.

No worries.

Error straight away - "The program can't start because steam_api.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to blahdy blah blah. You get the idea."

Needs to be the actual file too. I can uninstall Steam if you like and see if it still runs with the file but not with Steam installed?

If it's not too much to ask.

As you have probably guessed by now, I'm highly considering the Steam version but don't want to be bitten. Thanks

When will we can to download mac version?
Well, New Release Day has come and gone and the prize goes to The Guild 2 75% off. Could we at least have the "Coming Soon" changed into "Late August" or something in the D:OS game page?

Ok - so with the folder copied away from Steam.

The steam_api.dll left in the folder with the executable.

Steam uninstalled and a shut down and power up after.

It works, at least it did through character creator and a few minutes in game. No issues beyond the already established ones with Raptr / Catalyst / etc etc.

Matruchus: Ah, well. As I said its your decision and most of the games will never come to gog and that is a fact as long as statements from AAA developers about drm generating profits hold.
avatar
jamyskis: Indeed, which is why I took the decision to focus largely on console gaming for the most part and decided to not replace or repair my gaming PC when it broke down.

But then, some people seem to have a problem with that kind of decision as well.
Ah, well mainly your purse.

- to get hardware out of the way: ps4 level pc can be built for roughly same price (~110%)
- since your on gog you obviously care about old games too

Good luck buying 300 games at $70 each & storing them on console. Since my gog's asp is about $4 for my 300 you get a lousy fifteen games... Oh and you trying to play these games in 2025 after your ps4 has died: told you so!

Thank you for taking the time to go through all that. I guess I have no choice to get it from Steam if GOG is truly aiming for an August release, waiting 2 months is too much for my patience.

I rest my case - people really just fucking can't get over themselves and their self-perception of superiority. I give up.

JudasIscariot: We do speak with each other in the office but when it comes to technical issues like this, it's best to have everything in a central location so that we can determine, instead of assuming, both the scope of the problem and inform the proper department along with the information collected via support tickets about the problem.

In short, support tickets keep everything organized :)
Why then, after seeing so many customers complaining about this issue, did you not log a support ticket yourself? Instead you simply repeated your mantra "try the downloader" over and over again. To me, it felt a bit like listening to an outsourced support "technician" in India reading the lines from his response script.

Had you been just a little bit proactive, the problem could have been solved already. If you guys intend to expand your business with Galaxy and whatnot, you are going to really have to up your game with regard to support.
I'm pretty sure this is all about regional pricing and we will see the game on GOG flat priced in two months.

I just wonder why they don't tell us and discredit their own (not even released) client instead.
avatar
jamyskis: Which essentially involves a shit-load of work that you could just save by buying the proper DRM-free version in the first place.
And when a proper version doesn't exist on GOG, I would still have to do it.

It isn't a lot of work if you know what you're doing, typically takes me around 30mins to finish the install script for 1 game. The first time I used the Inno Setup was around 2008 so I'm not exactly new to the thing.
avatar
Rincewind81: It was advertised as a big release back then and one of the reasons for regional pricing. And now? What release? Maybe in two month? But the game is ready for Backers here? And the only given reason is the support of an optional client?

This is just putting one and one together. It is about money...

And when we talk about money. The usual share between the developer and the store is 70:30. So GOG will take the same share. If they compensate every european buyer who pays 26% more than an american this will be a heavy impact. They did this for Age of Wonders because they need to react quickly, they do this with the Witcher because they get all the money and can afford it, but that is it. Regional pricing for now is pretty dead, so the delay instead. Most of the games are sold right at release and in the weeks after that. And Larian will get the most out of every buyer. And after that GOG can sell the game "fair priced" for less...
avatar
Reaper9988: Honestly if that is the case then i wish GoG would just come out and say it.
At least it would be quite clear that the fault is entirely on Larian and their distributors.

I frankly believe that my opinion of Larian will suffer considerably more before this whole thing is over.
wait
so those of us waiting to buy it get regionally priced AND wait two months??????????????...........

they obviously don't want to wreck the existing business with larian. personally this decision fuks overthe Gog customer.sigh

No sweat - yeah - at least - at the very, very least - it's not too bad.

The only thing I didn't try was uninstalling Divinity as well - and running the computer with Steam and Divinity uninstalled but with the copied folder.

So that will be next on my list of things to trial and see how it works - sadly - that one may have to wait until tomorrow.
