Something that keeps circling in my head is the fact that I expected a pre order for a game such as this, seeing as the 30th June kept approaching with no word from GOG it kinda hinted that they knew it wouldn't be released the same day as Steam.
What remains a mystery is, why not tell us sooner about it? Video uploaded 4 days ago is also another question. Was redeeming the game only for KS backers planned from the beginning?
Looks like it, and they're being put in bad light due to it.

VanishedOne: I notice the video on http://www.gog.com/game/divinity_original_sin still bears the 'June 30th' release date... along with GOG branding. Awkward...
HiroVoid: Heck, the release date says June 30 on that page. Effin' useless NDAs only cause more problems..

My guess is Larian forgot about the KS backers pledge to GOG keys and didn't intend to release it on GOG due to some Steam exclusivity agreement (which I wouldn't put past the big S).
If you want to get really paranoid, perhaps they kept GOG in the dark due to some NDA on the exclusivity side, with the intended side effect of making GOG look like a bungling group of morons. Nothing official June 30th for sure was signed with GOG, so GOG was simply under the impression of the legit release going off without a hitch.
Or it could be a combination of some things, I dunno, I got two hours of sleep last night and my brain isn't firing on all cylinders today.

six-: I had no issues to get the game on gog as a kickstarter. In fact the installer started just now and I have been downloading it for some 2 hours. Yeah I got crap internet. :(
Meh, I still get a 404. I'll just go to bed and try again tomorrow. Larian most certainly did not forget about their Kickstarter backers and if you read any of their updates it will be immediately clear that they did not forget about gog.com either.

Steam/Valve never did such deals. And why should they? Compared to steam every other retailer is only small and no danger and Larian only a small indie developer.

Whoever thought this entire scheme up is totally nuts. I had planned to buy this today and pickup a few other things I have been wanting, all at the same time. Instead, I ended up buying it from STEAM. 2 months is ridiculous amount of time for them to expect us to wait. It really sucks because I would have much rather spent my money here. I am sure I will buy it again from gog someday when it is cheap and patched up and OLD.

AstralWanderer: *splutters* Ever heard of Skyrim? Civilization V? Napoleon Total War? Those games all use Steamworks which makes them Steam exclusive - even if you buy a DVD at retail of such games, you still need to link it to a Steam account.
Yes but the developer/Publisher choose it, it is not enforced or part of an (payed) exclusivity Deal. You can use Steamworks in the Steam Version and release a Non-Steam version here. For example Papers Please, Risen 2, Brütal Legend, Legend of Grimrock, Trine, The Witcher 2(!).

Don't remind me! I bought a boxed Skyrim without knowing I'd need a Steam acct, and even after an ungodly number of hours playing, I'm STILL pissed about that.
