As a Ks backer, i have the game currently downloading, but this situation makes no sense to me: delaying a general public release for 2 months because an optional multiplayer client is not ready? Thats like adding drm to the game, and one of the complaints some people point at steam vs gog: if steam stops working or goes out of business, the games wont work, here because galaxy isnt working (yet) the game doesnt work (by not being released).
Does marketing think the long term benefit of having a big title supporting galaxy will outweigh the backlask of delaying the release?

DalamarNL: So,
there was a BIG misunderstanding about being able to buy/ download the game. A lot of different people were posting here:
1. the KS backers who had already redeemed their key
2. the KS backers who couldn't redeem it/ did not get a key
3. people wanting to purchase the game

G-Doc did not realise this at first, thinking only people from group 3 were complaining. Some statements by Larian were posted about giving out keys for group 2. Etc.

So:
1. can download the game now (I'm using the GoG downloader for this, this seems to work)
2. should be getting keys tomorrow
3. will be able to buy this from around 21st of August, a GoG Galaxy enabled game

1 and 2 can play without the Galaxy option right now.

shmerl: That much is already clear. Now some explanation is proper, why #3 have to wait.
Don't forget that all of gogs employees are already sleeping or watching football world championship in Brazil at the moment so no explanation till tomorrow at least.
Why I can understand the frustration and annoyance of this (both GOG and Larian should have / could have communicated the shift much, much better)

Cries of "Well I'm going to get it on Steam now" aren't exactly going to push why we're on GOG in the first place.

We're the people who tell the status quo to go F itself - we're used to being shat up by the fools everywhere else because we know that we're here for what's right for consumers and the gaming industry.

So yeah, let them know the way they handled this was bullshit. Let both GOG and Larian know that all of this could have been avoided with a few words yesterday, a week ago and today.

...but don't go buy it on Steam or threaten you will.

That's like giving munitions to the enemy.

Yeah. If the Galaxy client is required to play this, I'm really not seeing how this is any different from Steam, so I'll probably wait until tomorrow until I buy from Steam to see if there's an explanation, or if we know that the Galaxy client is required to play this. I just don't see why a public version can't be released now since kickstarter backers can already get their versions of the game on GOG.

+1. Everyone should upvote this so it gets attention.

darewind: I came here to purchase Divinity Original Sin DRM free only to learn that your "optional" client is delaying the commercial release.Since I will need a client to run the game either way I will just purchase it on Steam.
meh, I'm just pirating the game instead, I'm still not gonna use steam although I would have liked to give both Larian and gog money for it

I don't actually have a problem with buying from Steam, but I ultimately prefer GOG's policies and business model. If the Galaxy client is required for this and why its being delayed for a two whole months, I'd rather buy it on Steam than support games requiring Galaxy on GOG.com.
The kickstarter gog installed properly. Too bad if it wouldn't be available for non-kickstarters on gog till late August.

Fair enough.

I'd rather support games on GOG that use Galaxy than support games on Steam that require Steam.

I don't get why they're forcing the two together here (I honestly think they'll come out and someone will say this was a boo, boo and we'll see a D:OS launch here within a few days).
Well... I'm still hoping this is some kind of misunderstanding... I have a high opinion of GOG as a trusted team and store and I would hate it if this was their fault. I'm not going to buy the game on Steam, more likely than not I'm not going to buy it at all if it is a two month wait - by than all of my friends, many of whom use steam will move on from it. So what is the point of me having a multilayer orientated game and no one to play with? So I hope that the 2 month nonsense is just a mistake...
I backed this game to support DRM-free games. To see the game beeing released on steam and customers who want to buy the DRM free version have to wait 2 month makes me sad! Shame on Larian!
Adding insult to Injury even the pirates will be able to play the game instantly and DRM-Free in a matter of hours, and we legitimate paying GOG customers have to wait 2 full months.

For a change this morning I said "I love Mondays", I was wrong I still hate Mondays. I hope GOG can do something about this as soon as possible.

Bad marketing for the Galaxy client and the company overall, same thing goes for Larian. Still can't understand how could they mess up such a big release.

Can you please send them a comment about it on KS? I hope they'll hear the criticism.

mattymuc: Aehm... why the hell do non backers have to wait 2 month for an optional client to buy the game? GOG, this is absolutely bad marketing for your client!
This is what I don't understand. I have no intention of ever using the GOG Galaxy thing and I just want to play my games by myself in single player mode without any internet connection. I was under the impression that the Galaxy thing was purely optional and that GOG were never going to force it on any of us.

However, the fact that they aren't releasing D:OS until the client software is all up and running certainly suggests that there will be some form of DRM included otherwise D:OS would have been released today. If this is true (that the game will need the client to work) then you've really lost the plot GOG. What happened to your promise of DRM free games?
