Matruchus: The client won't be optional for all games. It will be obligatory for some multiplayer games that was already stated in the Gog Galaxy announcement. It seems now we are seing first bad effects of it.
avatar
Piranjade: Can you link to that? Because I seem to misremember that and cannot find it.
I think some people - I'm unsure whether Matruchus is one - are referring to the GOG/Galaxy client when what they mean is the Galaxy online platform.

Tormentfan: Agreed. As soon as this kind of thing became obligatory for any reason, then any and all claims at DRM neutrality go out the window. Games didn't used to need a client to go online, the game dealt with that itself.
The problem with this is that gog stated in the galaxy announcement that you won't need the client for the single player portion of the game which now seems to be not quite what they promised.

G-Doc: EDIT: The expected release date for this title is August 31, sorry for not communicating that properly.
avatar
srilumpa: Why not release the Galaxy free version now, with direct IP multiplayer support as mentioned by Larian, and update it with support for Galaxy in August?
Common sense aimed at reducing hassle for their customer?

How dare you, please leave.

Yes it one and the same its just two names for it.

Slartibartfas: Ok, but then... Where is my dl? Redeemed my ks Code but no dl so far. Is ks release today or not?
avatar
mattymuc: Where do you have your KS Code from? I backed the game but did not get a GOG-key... I can't choose a GOG key on larianvault... :-(
This morning around 10 AM Eastern US, I was able to get my first key on GOG.com via LarianVault. Redeemed, got my email receipt from GOG.com (though it doesn't even show as coming soon on my GOG account page), but I can only select Steam for my second key, so I'm waiting on that one. Suspecting Slartibartfas experienced something similar. Based on what you and others have been seeing, I'm guessing that once they realized all the trouble going on, Larian removed the GOG.com option from the Your Choices & Input page in the LarianVault.

There's a lot coming out about this which doesn't seem to be quite 'what they said'.

Bwahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahaahahahahahahaha!!!!! Best post in the whole thread! LOL I opened it up in the background and kept reading... 10s later youtube started blaring it and I bust up laughing. My neighbours 3 doors down probably heard me. LOL

Thanks for the good laugh. :)

G-Doc: To the best of my knowledge Larian was to provide us with a build today, so the keys KS backers got from Larian can be activated. Hasn't this happen yet? I'll do my best to give you an update on that ASAP.
Thanks for the update - and a big, stinking onion to Larian for dropping the ball on this.

However GOG's decision to hold general available until August 31 should be reconsidered. That effectively gives "the competition" a good 2 months head start (i.e. by the time GOG launch it, Steam will have it in 60-80% discount sales). Holding a high-profile release like this up for GOG Galaxy (a non-event for those who don't game online) which itself is likely to see issues on launch would be a major own goal.

Tormentfan: Are you being serious?

Do you think we'd all be bitching about this if we had access to the game?
Yes, I am being serious. As I said - to the best of my knowledge, the build should have been made accessible to the KS backers by 5PM GMT today. I haven't read the thread, I admit, and for that I am sorry, but to my defense I had a really busy day, week, month, I'm tired and this is late evening for me. I thought the problem was mainly the fact I missed the part about full release date.

I have contacted our product department and I've been told that there's been even more delay than I expected, but the build should be up in about 30 minutes.

I'm very sorry for your stress. Now, that I understand what the actual problem is, I can imagine how you must feel - not being able to start playing the game you're probably as anxious to get your hands on as I am.

I'll let you know as soon as I get the notice the build is up.

EDIT:
Upvoted.

This is crazy. People are going mad waiting fot the game to show up on their accounts, and G-Doc talks sh... stuff on GOG Galaxy launch. I can see a priority disorder here :)

To be clear - I don't blamy you! You are the light in the tunnel, the Morning Star :)

Wait so KS backers get it now and it can only bought here once galaxy is released ? talk about bad idea.....
First off who is really playing a divinity game for Multiplayer ?
Second if for some reason someone really does who's gonna wait 2 month to buy this ?

And what someone else said it contradicts the part where you said you'll always have a none galaxy version of the game too.......

Thanks for the update on the actual release for KS backers though.

Yeah I mean this is about a game release and not some shitty client.

jcdenton11: So why wasn't the game available today as promised, and this confusion added to boot? Is Larian that incompetent that they can't send you a build or is it on your end?
avatar
G-Doc: And just one post later, wiggle room is found. ;-)

Answer would be great!

I redeemed my ks-code hours ago and there is no dl. Now you come and say "oh what we didn´t knew that. Is the release today?" Come on... Do you job please... And as important as activading the build is talking with your com... we want to know whats happening, because we paid for the game.

i think you mix up the Backer code & the game code (GOG/Steam)

i paste the description from the Larian Vault page (the backer code is in plain sight , you can't miss it and it works whatever plateform you use to my understanding)

"If you create a profile in the game and it asks you for a Kickstarter backer code, please use the following unique, personal code. You can select this code and then copy it. You can paste it by clicking the small green button in the game next to the input box."

Still no one could d/l the GOG version , the informations are very confusing.

In addition there were some changes when selecting the desired platform in the Vault, and not in the good way.... :(

globaly it's a huge mess, except for the Steam users only -> Larian gave priority to Steam (i don't blame them, but that''s unfortunate)

Thank you. Keep the information coming (and please send a note up the chain to request a version of Divinity: Original Sin minus Galaxy-supported online multiplayer released sooner rather than later)!
