How much would would the current model of GOG be effected if there was more transparency in games that were coming soon?
I'm certainly not asking anyone to exclaim that System Shock 2 will come before the agreement is struck.
But I am thinking that there could be a level of advertisement between that foolhardy idea and "HEY!, look at what we just released!"
Maybe EVERY game can't be treated the same. But the reason I bring this up is the number of games that GOG doesn't have in its catalog that seem like potential no-brainers. Just off the top of my head, following are a few games that already have their foot in the door, but aren't here (this does not count known publishers that are here and is certainly not complete)
Divinity 2 (2 out of 3 here)
Darkfall: lost soul (2 out of 3 here)
Dreamfall (1 out of 2 here)
Myst 3/4 (3 out of 5 here)
Sacred 2 (1 out of 2 here)
Vampire:Bloodlines (1 out of 2 here)
Painkiller (2 out of 5 here)
Neverwinter Nights (1 out of 2 here)
Some of these games, I want to buy now. If I buy them now, odds are much less that I will buy when GOG gets them (may depend on the game). What is the trade-off of a little bit of hype and transparency versus helping people plan their budgets?
I know with kickstarter, lots of people are pledging their entertainment money for the month. Things may be different if we knew a game that rhymed with shrim Shmandango was coming to GOG sometime this month.
I suspect the answer from GOG is something along the lines of... "our hands are tied"? Just thought I'd throw out the discussion of maybe letting us slip you a knife :p
