That is probably the most misinterpreted quote ever. During one of the interviews right after the announcement of the game, a couple of BioWare devs were talking about the massive amount of content they expect to include in the game. In that they said the sheer amount of stuff they are cramming into the game is like making KotOR 3, 4, 5, etc. in a single game, not that the game actually is KotOR 3, 4, 5, etc.

Lucasarts have got into the habit of announcing their impending announcements and making those subsequent announcements very disappointing. It makes me wonder how much life there is left in the company if Old Republic fails.
As for KotOR 3, Bioware won't even acknowledge the existence of KotOR 2 even though they have NWN2 mentioned on their site (another sequel to one of their games from Obsidian). That's not making the continuation of the single player RPG all that likely. Unless they hand it over to Obsidian altogether.

KotOR is dead I'm afraid. They're never going to make it. All we're ever gonna get is fucking MMO bullshit.

Bad analogy there : Hollywood is nothing without remakes and sequels ;) Always has been, always will be. Agree on the mind-numbing mediocrity though :P

Yeah, and with the latest bunch of back history retcons they've released in preparation for TOR, they have pretty much eliminated the existence of any story events or elements of KotOR 2. Way to screw the fans LA and BioWare.

Yeah, I know and I agree: TFU doesn't have the cult classic aura that can have titles like Dark Forces/Jedi Knight, X-Wing/TIE Fighter, and yes, I would love to see KOTOR 3 instead of an MMO (two MMOs if we count the Clone Wars MMO for casuals).
But, all things considered, I think we could have much much worse. TFU is one of the best things LucasArts has done recently (I'm talking about new games, not remakes or re-releases). It's far away some other big companies, but for a game developped entirely BY LucasArts, it's a pretty decent game.
As for the MMO: ok, ok, even the best MMO couldn't beat a standard RPG. But come on, if you follow the work in progress, even if we don't really know mecanisms of the game yet, the artistic part is outstanding, as well as the background, locations, etc...
LucasArts can be critized, but come one, once more it could be much much worse. And even if it could also be much much better, we're far away from Episode I time where tons of quickly-developped games were released in mass.
Just my point of view.

I forgot about that. That's easily the number one reason why a second sequel is impossible then. Lucasarts just seem to have completely lost their way. Even attempts to get back to their roots have been very hit and miss.
I suppose they're at least trying. But like I said, I don't know how much longer they can go on like this before the damage becomes permanent.

At this point though, would it really matter if they did close shop? They've only had a few good games in the last ten years and the second Star Wars trilogy sucked. To be honest, I wouldn't miss them.

Sod the MMO stuff, gimme a film of Grim Fandango!

Because they fell to the dark side. (ie: accountants and suits) :-(

haha, true. I remember many years ago thinking that after I first played privateer ("Man imagine if they made this in the star wars universe!").
Sadly, I think LucasArts was sorta doomed from the get-go. They made great games, but their big games seemed to be Sims and Point-n-Click adventures. As the 90's progressed those genres kinda died out; replaced by FPS's and RTS's. I think that really hurt the quality of later titles as they were "re-inventing the wheel" so to speak while trying to play ball in a new genre with new big-name competitors

Semantics. The point is they are seeing TOR as a substitute for more singleplayer games.
