Etdn: More PC games he says? Great news hopefully now they can focus on games made for playing on current technology and not technology a decade old like consoles.
Hooray! Only the rich can play games then!

RayRay13000: My god, someone in this day and age are complaining about using the fucking disk(s) on a console?

*Plays Final Fantasy 7, reaches end of disk one, gets a prompt telling me to insert disk two, takes 5-10 seconds to insert the second disk, continues playing the game* Oh the horror.

*Plays The Witcher 2 on Xbox, gets a prompt to insert disk two, takes 5-10 seconds to insert the second disk, continues playing the game* Oh the horror.

Rinse and repeat for Final Fantasy XIII, L.A Noire, and other games on other systems that used multiple disks.
Personally, my objection to using a disk when it isn't an actual requirement (i.e. the machine has some other storage the game could be moved to) goes more along the lines of "I can't make a backup (either technically or legally), they won't replace the disc at cost and me handling the disc degrades the quality and every time it is in the machine, I'm risking it being scratching, grinded into dust or exploding[1]".

[1] And yes, this one has happened to me personally.

It is not the inconvenience of changing disks, it is more the unnecessary risk of damage my property is being exposed to.

Yeah...

Nothing gives PC gamers a bad name like the "oh my god this rock texture is kind of bad this game sucks" crowd. That kind of bullshit focus on tech specs and graphics is a big reason the "AAA" market is so fucked right now.
"More studios WILL close and you’ll see more PC and mobile games"

Wait. How the fuck is less DRM on a console going to lead to MORE PC games? If piracy due to inexistent/ineffective DRM hurts a platform so much, then why should abandoning the draconian Xbox DRM boost sales on a platform that is still piracy heaven?

Imagine business owners in the US complaining about the lack of legal measures against protection racketeering and then threatening to relocate to Sicily, Italy.

That's so fundamentally stupid and illogical it's borderline trolling. No, scratch that! That's trolling, period!

It's about used games, not piracy: "You cannot have game and marketing budgets this high while also having used and rental games existing. The numbers do NOT work people."

The original implementation made it very inconvenient to trade used copies (no lending temporarily, no trading to anyone not on your Xbox friends list for 30 days, etc.) and publishers could choose to forbid trading their retail games on a whim (turning those discs into single-use coasters, not unlike Steam); now retail discs will be fully functional with no such restrictions (as on the 360) so publishers are back to jealously grumbling about "lost profits" due to used games (which they consider to be as bad as piracy).

FTFY.
seriously? we all should know by now Cliffy B. is a loudmouth idiot who constantly talks out of his ass and uses straw man arguments to make his "points" that honestly would help him fit right in with Fox News.

So why do people bother paying him any attention, and why are people still shocked that he says something stupid and why do we waste our time discussing what stupid crap that comes out of his mouth? It's just silly if you ask me. He is a loudmouth idiot with a bad case of "verbal diarrhea" so who cares?

Also is he even relevant anymore? I'm trying to think of the last real good game he made..

And we've all seen how much that practice hurt the PS3 and Xbox 360. Game sales on the PC soared and consoles figures plummeted, making both platforms all but irrelevant while PC gaming became a hulking giant dominating the business. Except not.

That's the same level of stupid, it's just a different KIND of stupid...

GaminggUy45: When the Customer becomes the enemy something is wrong.
I agreee although it isn't that simple. Sellers always want to sell at the highest possible price and buyers at the lowest. In a way it's like a fight and marketing and reputation decide who benefits most.
avatar
ET3D: Can you explain what you're talking about? Because the PC industry pretty much eliminated used sales and piracy also got reduced, and the prices are rock bottom (that's part of the reason there's less piracy).
Used sales yes mostly, but not piracy very far from it, and it's much higher and easier on PC that is it on console. (And the piracy rate is most probably one of the main reason why the price are "rock bottom")

What I am talking about is the beginning of the CD-rom era when a CD burner cost was around 10'000-20'000$. For quite some time (until the burners became "mainstream") pirating a game costed a lot more than actually buying it.

ET3D: A lot of people already thought that the next console gen will be the last, and Microsoft was hoping that using a model that's closer to PC and mobiles, which are growing markets, would help reinvigorate the console.
Nowadays Microsoft care about one thing : Azure

The X-Box one will probably be the last console but it was not a step toward PC, it was one toward cloud based gaming

nope, he had long since left EA/Maxis in 2009 so he had nothing to do with it. If I recall he did had a few choice words about the whole mess though

By more PC games I'd assume he means more free to play games with pay to win and micro transactions added in. Even as well as the PC market is now a days, it isn't big enough to support the insane budgets companies are spending to make AAA games.
