A classic!

Rune Classic, a heroic third-person action game firmly rooted in the dark realm of the olden Norse mythology, coming complete with the Halls of Valhalla expansion to deliver one of the most memorable multi-player experiences of all time, is available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $3.99 for the next 24 hours!

Yggdrasil, the immense tree at the center of the world, will tremble like a young aspen in the north wind as the armies of all realms will clash in the war that ends all wars: the Ragnarök. Loki, the mad god of strife and chaos, will escape his shackles and set afire Midgard, the world of men, to suffocate Asgard, the land of gods with thick black smoke of burning souls. So have the Skalds foretold, so have the Norns seen with their blind eyes, so it shall be. The wheels of war have been already set in motion, and the mystical runestones keeping the world in balance are now in peril. It's up to you, a young initiate in the sacred Order of Odinsblade, to strike against the foes of harmony and push the inevitable end back a few centuries again. So it has happened before, and so it shall happen again.

Rune Classic, a classic third-person perspective action game, inspired by the heroic sagas of Norse mythology, will take you on a journey of bravery, honor, and blood. As Ragnar, a young Viking warrior newly initiated to the sacred Odinsblade Order, you'll be tasked to protect the mystical runestones, created by the one-eyed father of gods himself, to bind the evil Loki and stop him from causing chaos and suffering. On top of the exciting and challenging single-player campaign, the Halls of Valhalla expansion provides Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Arena, and Headball multi-player modes, that can keep you entertained for many more hours. With the surprisingly well-executed hand-to-hand combat mechanics, engrossing theme, and graphics that aged very well, this title belongs in the gaming collection of every dark fantasy and action fan.

Answer Odin's call to stay up all night to get Loki, and cancel the Ragnarök in Rune Classic, for only $3.99 on GOG.com. The promo lasts until Tuesday, January 14, at 10:59AM GMT.
Half an hour and no post? No love for Norse mythology? ;)

Oh yes, people have plenty of love for Norse mythology, but they're busy arguing over The Banner Saga's release :-)

That said, I have no idea what that game is like, any comparison to help me decide whether I get it or not?
Also has great soundtrack.
Heard of it. Never played it. Graphics remind me of blades of darkness (spelling) for some reason....

Die by the Sword, Severance: Blade of Darkness (you can buy both here). Basically TPP action game focused on melee fighting.

But I think it would be better if somebody more competent said something about the game. I played it for some time back in 2000 but it was never my favorite genre. TBH I haven't even bought it here and I won't in the near future (if ever).
nice promo. looks to be a good game

Not only that, mate. The game has a fully functional editor! So those who're familiar with the Unreal Engine 1 editing (like myself) are able to create their own maps or even entire adventures! There's even a still running archive website dedicated to RuneEd w/ some basic and more advanced tuts. If you're interested, go ahead, visit it and feel the nostalgia of the old-school modding days;)

It's a third-person combat game sort of like Blade of Darkness but without the additional features such as stamina or a heavily expanded move set for each individual weapon. Don't get me wrong, every weapon does have a unique move set but it's not as extensive like Blade of Darkness :)

The levels are quite large but not overwhelmingly so, there are some puzzle elements but they aren't too obtuse, the combat is actually quite easy to master once you fight a few creatures. You can also use the environment to your advantage by either setting enemies on fire with a torch or basically making them drop down in a pool of lava.

Personally, for me, the atmosphere is just the way I remember it when I played the original game way back in the day. Quite dark and steeped in Norse mythology and it shows.

Also, it's a lot easier to behead your enemies in this game so if you're looking for some light beheading action, you can't go wrong with Rune :D

It looks awesome. Thanks! :)
Nice Promo! Rune is a great game (bought it last year) and well worth the $3.99 IMO. If you haven't played it check out this lengthy gameplay video:

Nose
Horse
Norsu (= "elephant" in Finnish)

So whenever I hear the term "Norse mythology", I keep thinking of some horse with a very large elephant nose.

What the WHAT? Sold!

(Seriously?)

(Like, really?)
Sadly the Loki Linux version is not included. Only thing that would make me rebuy it.
