A classic!

Rune Classic, a heroic third-person action game firmly rooted in the dark realm of the olden Norse mythology, coming complete with the Halls of Valhalla expansion to deliver one of the most memorable multi-player experiences of all time, is available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $3.99 for the next 24 hours!

Yggdrasil, the immense tree at the center of the world, will tremble like a young aspen in the north wind as the armies of all realms will clash in the war that ends all wars: the Ragnarök. Loki, the mad god of strife and chaos, will escape his shackles and set afire Midgard, the world of men, to suffocate Asgard, the land of gods with thick black smoke of burning souls. So have the Skalds foretold, so have the Norns seen with their blind eyes, so it shall be. The wheels of war have been already set in motion, and the mystical runestones keeping the world in balance are now in peril. It's up to you, a young initiate in the sacred Order of Odinsblade, to strike against the foes of harmony and push the inevitable end back a few centuries again. So it has happened before, and so it shall happen again.

Rune Classic, a classic third-person perspective action game, inspired by the heroic sagas of Norse mythology, will take you on a journey of bravery, honor, and blood. As Ragnar, a young Viking warrior newly initiated to the sacred Odinsblade Order, you'll be tasked to protect the mystical runestones, created by the one-eyed father of gods himself, to bind the evil Loki and stop him from causing chaos and suffering. On top of the exciting and challenging single-player campaign, the Halls of Valhalla expansion provides Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Arena, and Headball multi-player modes, that can keep you entertained for many more hours. With the surprisingly well-executed hand-to-hand combat mechanics, engrossing theme, and graphics that aged very well, this title belongs in the gaming collection of every dark fantasy and action fan.

Answer Odin's call to stay up all night to get Loki, and cancel the Ragnarök in Rune Classic, for only $3.99 on GOG.com. The promo lasts until Tuesday, January 14, at 10:59AM GMT.

(Seriously?)

(Like, really?)
Here's a excerpt from the description if you don't believe me...

"Experience multiplayer in vicious, fun "up close and personal" melee action with swords, maces, hammers, and axes (or your opponent's head or arm)."
Someone ought to start a Let's Play channel on youtube for GOG games only :P

Ghorpm: Half an hour and no post? No love for Norse mythology? ;)

timppu: Nose
Horse
Norsu (= "elephant" in Finnish)

So whenever I hear the term "Norse mythology", I keep thinking of some horse with a very large elephant nose.
Yeah, similar situations happens in Polish too. The most famous is the company producing light bulbs - Osram, which in Polish mean something like "I will have shat"
Would love to buy it, sadly it doesn't seem compatible to Win8, and I doubt I'd plug in my old PC just to play this. :/
I heard this game had cut content

I have a Win8 64 bit version, I've purchased this game at the very first day when it was released in GOG and I can assure you that it runs smoothly. I haven't encountered any issues with it.
That's strange. This thread only shows the gog post and one post by user 'kit64'.

However the post by kit64 has a quote from another post from a user 'Leroux' not shown in the thread.

It seems that there is some levels who where took out from the "classic" version :

If it bothers you, there seems to be a way to fix this :
http://www.gog.com/forum/rune_classic/rune_extended_mod_for_missing_levels

And there is the "Gold Version" included, wich is the "full" original.

I have a little question : in Rune Gold, what are the languages included ? Only English ? Is French included ?

You're on the second page of the thread. Leroux's post is on the first.

Wow, Rune. I reviewed the Loki version back in the day. The "couldn't pick up swords" bug came back just for me and never got fixed, which wasn't fun. Also, it was immediately post-9/11, and the other game on my review plate was a VN, so I was more in the mood for cute girls than blood and guts.

Really good third-person melee combat, though. Took a little adjusting but not bad.

Hm, that's good to know, so there's a chance it would run on my Win8 64-bit, too. Still a bit risky, since I've read that some people are having issues with the Steam version on Win8, and the GOG version doesn't officially support Win8 either, which probably means that it didn't run smoothly on all test PCs and that GOG's refund policy doesn't apply if I'm affected by the potential issues ...

All langaues are listed here, and yes -- French is included.
Ok, let me sum this up:
- Nordic mythology atmosphere
- Light beheadings
- Ability to hit an enemy with other enemy's body parts
- Light on puzzle

Now tell me Rune, where have you been all my life?

Thanks all, I think I'm convinced :-D

You forgot the "setting the enemy on fire" part :P
It's a fun game, definitely worth buying. Reminds me of a more action oriented Soul Reaver.
Ah, good. Another entry on my wishlist that is now cheaper than it was during the Holiday sale. Will grab this one today.
