A hack and slash hidden gem.

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition (also known as: Kult: Heretic Kingdoms), a sleek isometric fantasy action RPG with many interesting gameplay ideas, set in a vast gritty world deprived of hope, but filled with monsters and dangers, is available 50% off today on GOG.com. That's only $2.99 for the next 24 hours.

At the first glance, the sword seemed like nothing specia. Yes, the craftsmanship was excellent, and you could see that its creator went to great lengths to make the weapon look as ominous as a piece of steel can get, but there were many similar blades across the land. If anything, this one looked a little bit rusty and battered up. It was only as she reached for the hilt, when a slight vibration could be noticed. Like an electric charge hitting her hand. For a moment, the blade seemed to be gleaming--barely noticeable inner shine. What she thought to be flakes of rust shined in crimson red, like fresh blood embedded into the metal itself. But then, nothing special happened. She just stood there, holding the sword, looking at it in silence. Nobody else would even notice, but she knew. In her hand, rested the blade that tasted the blood of god. The Godslayer.

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition is a classic action-rpg that has the ambition of delivering some original ideas an making your experience unique. It makes sure that upon completion, you won't just feel like you've completed another generic hack-and-slash. It succeeds by the means of excellent storytelling, dynamic gameplay, and some original RPG mechanics. If you are a fan of the genre, but somehow you managed to overlook this title in the past, you're up for one satisfying experience! The GOG.com edition of the game comes with a full MP3 soundtrack.

Adventure awaits, so go on--discover the land that needs hope and decide if it deserves it in Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition, for only $2.99 on GOG.com, until Tuesday, March 18, at 10:59AM GMT.
Can anyone recommend a compelling video?

I'm somewhat interested, but the GOG video is pretty clunky and thin. Certainly, I can google for videos myself. I was just wondering if anyone's encountered some specific intriguing media that pushed them over the buying edge.

vicklemos: ...
Thanks, vicklemos, that's helpful. I may grab it for the story alone.

There is also a demo available, just google it.
Another great addition to my library, thanks gog!
I've been waiting for this... Pseudo-religious fiction used to be my thing in my late teens and early 20s. Today I still enjoy this kind of stuff, just not as much as I used to.
Bad timing. I have this in my wishlist but can't spend any money right now.

Thanks for the suggestion, HiPhish.

Unfortunately, the demo crashes on startup. Appcrash in ntdll.dll. I tried a few basic fixes (compatibility settings, resolution settings) with no luck. Oh well. I don't have the patience to pursue the demo further.
I wish that normal orders could be combined with special promos like the pick five in one checkout - because today I did one of each, and I'm sure credit card processing base fees takes a relatively large chunk out of this $3 purchase (but I couldn't find anything else I want to buy right now) . . .
As others have said, I spent my gaming budget with the St. Patrick's promotion over the weekend, so all spent out or I would have gotten it since it is on my wish list.

Treasure: My backlog is starting to gain in size!
When gaining size is the problem, the solution as always is diet and exercise.

Exercise: Make sure to avoid it entirely -- sit your ass down in front of the computer all day.
Diet: Consume as many games as possible every day.

(And no, do not consult your physician before taking the above advice.)

And now for a message from our sponsor:

Join Backlog-Watchers (TM) now!
For just $15 a month we will send you a list of games and a schedule for you to follow and you can start shrinking that backlog right away!
Results guaranteed or your money back!*

There is also a post-mortem written by Chris Bateman about Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition here:

I do believe there was a thread dedicated to post-mortems around here somewhere...

Treasure: This one perhaps ?

Ontopic- I bought enough games already in the Irish sale, so I'll wait for a higher discount, although this game has been in my wishlist for ages. My backlog is starting to gain in size!
Thanks, that's the one I was looking for :D
Bought!!
To everyone that has played Kult (Inquisition) or that is going to play it:
I am really interested in your feedback on the game. What did you enjoy the most, what did you dislike and, most importantly, what would you like to see in the sequel? :)

(I played the entire game all the way through save for an optional area that's only revealed towards the end of the game.)

I enjoyed the blood points mechanic so that I didn't have to guzzle potions all day long.

I liked the overall theme and the fact that the main character was, for the most part, believable as she behaved very much like someone who didn't get out much and had a slight touch of fanatical zeal towards realizing her end goal. There need to be more believable characters.

The fact that there wasn't such a gear dependency in the game was great as I hate having to constantly compare tons of gear. Kult was also very informative with tool tips but without resorting to the equivalent of flashing neon arrows pointing towards an objective or pointing out a game mechanic, which is really nice, imho.

I didn't find much to dislike, personally, but then again since I work here my opinion is biased :)
