A hack and slash hidden gem.

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition (also known as: Kult: Heretic Kingdoms), a sleek isometric fantasy action RPG with many interesting gameplay ideas, set in a vast gritty world deprived of hope, but filled with monsters and dangers, is available 50% off today on GOG.com. That's only $2.99 for the next 24 hours.

At the first glance, the sword seemed like nothing specia. Yes, the craftsmanship was excellent, and you could see that its creator went to great lengths to make the weapon look as ominous as a piece of steel can get, but there were many similar blades across the land. If anything, this one looked a little bit rusty and battered up. It was only as she reached for the hilt, when a slight vibration could be noticed. Like an electric charge hitting her hand. For a moment, the blade seemed to be gleaming--barely noticeable inner shine. What she thought to be flakes of rust shined in crimson red, like fresh blood embedded into the metal itself. But then, nothing special happened. She just stood there, holding the sword, looking at it in silence. Nobody else would even notice, but she knew. In her hand, rested the blade that tasted the blood of god. The Godslayer.

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition is a classic action-rpg that has the ambition of delivering some original ideas an making your experience unique. It makes sure that upon completion, you won't just feel like you've completed another generic hack-and-slash. It succeeds by the means of excellent storytelling, dynamic gameplay, and some original RPG mechanics. If you are a fan of the genre, but somehow you managed to overlook this title in the past, you're up for one satisfying experience! The GOG.com edition of the game comes with a full MP3 soundtrack.

Adventure awaits, so go on--discover the land that needs hope and decide if it deserves it in Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition, for only $2.99 on GOG.com, until Tuesday, March 18, at 10:59AM GMT.
I like the screenshots, but is this game worth playing?
Some reviews rate it only 6-7/10 (bad progression & balance, buggy) and I already have tons of Diablo clones already..

this is somehow different from Diablo, they are only the same in the "combat" area, but Cult has more story, a system of alternate reality, it's really neat, you should give it a try (3 bucks is nothing if you like the genre :)

HiPhish: I have been trying to get the demo running in Wine, but no success. I don't think the full version will fare any better :/
While looking around for possible leads for this game on Wine I found this: http://ubuntu-wine.ru/index/kult_heretic_kingdoms_on_ubuntu/0-98

Google Translate tells me that this game does work, with a bit of tweaking, and you'll have to play in windowed mode.

rampancy: ...
I get around 15 FPS framerate, not really playable. Thanks for trying to help anyway.

I played through the whole game on Windows 7 64 bit and I had nary a crash or any weird bugs happen so take that for what you will :)

It's not really a classic Diablo clone as you don't need to hunt for gear as much as you would in a Diablo clone. In Heretic Kingdoms it's attunements that you are looking for and all you need to do is wield an item for a while until you unlock a specific attunement. On top of that, the way you heal yourself is more along the lines of using blood points and such.

All in all, I know I had fun with the game :)
Can anyone comment on the soundtrack? Generic/awesome?
Normally I'd jump on this for $3, but I have more games than I can play and too much else to do besides. I'll think about it.
I've been eyeing this one for quite awhile and my backlog is already pretty massive. I guess I'll ponder a bit more before I decide. I like the look of the game play and from what I've read about the plot, not very generic either. (always a plus!)
Yes! Time to cash in, been waiting on this one.
And bought :) "Main" wishlist down to just 2 now...
And this also means that I can "officially" say I put a certain mess and the boycott it triggered behind :)

Correction: My bad, still 8.5% PSC fee, had calculated it wrong and thought it was less. Ah well.

deonast: In my wishlist as well and I'm buying. I think someone should at least be making some money out of this 60/70% off unless it is a really expensive title (which it isn't) I'd be feeling guilty. I guess it comes down to how much you can afford.
True, can give GoG some of my money :D.
Even tough it isnt full price.

Sorry GoG, dont hurt me!
Very tempting, it would be in my library already if it was turned based.
Outstanding! Finally can get this on promo. For the moment I was afraid main heroine has fixed appearance but luckily can be customized to RE3 Jill Valentine'esque look. To those that wonder if it will run on low end machines I can confirm, this runs fine with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS and Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express for graphics on ASUS K50IJ laptop. ;-)

Count me in among the ones who've been eyeing this one for a while. Thanks GOG!
