Tom Chick on CrispyGamer says, "Fry it."

That was unexpected.

PS/ I don't think the stealth in BB was ever "instant fail" like NOLF. There might be a couple of bits where stealth is needed, but its not common. The advantage of stealth is that you get to take guys down in an efficient and cool way... and there is at least one part where you are up against armed guards with only melee weapons - so stealth is recommended. But its the GOOD KIND OF STEALTH imho.
(this game = thief meets deus ex meets doom3)

Thanks, that was the answer that I was looking for. A 'yes' or 'no'.
I might actually get it, further down the road when the price drops.

Look, the game may not be as awesome as Escape From Butcher Bay, but it's still a great game, and the inclusion of a revamped Butcher Bay makes it one hell of a package!
Tom Chick on his own forums said that he scored it as if the Butcher Bay was not included.
So, if you have not yet played Butcher Bay, that it is a MUST BUY. If you did play it and do not want to play it again, then it is Fry it, because Athena is simply not as good (its second half, that is).
I myself will probably buy it, because I wanna play Butcher Bay again and Athena is a welcome bonus.

Arkose: Be warned, according to PC Gamer the PC version uses mandatory SecuROM online activation with a three-install limit, and the activations are non-revocable.

That's a shame. I wanted to buy it, but now I guess not
I wanted to get the game, if only, like what Paul_cz said, to play the original Butcher Bay campaign with updated graphics, but seems like everyone's busting the Dark Athena campaign, plus the DRM issue. I guess I will pass after all, at least until the price falls and the DRM is removed. Or, maybe I'll just get it from ebay
They don't make games like they used to :(

Atari is doing great with these kind of protections and killing PC gaming. I hope Ghostbusters game will not have DRM like this.

It seems to be the consensus that the second half isn't as good as the original so what makes this version worth getting over BB?
Also, does it have the commentary from the original game?
From the comparisson video here:
http://ve3d.ign.com/videos/44706/PC/The-Chronicles-of-Riddick-Assault-on-Dark-Athena/Trailer/Escape-From-Butcher-Bay-2004-vs-2009-Comparison
I can't say that the difference seems big enough to make it worth shelling out for the new one... unless you're a total graphics whore with a top notch PC.
I've seen the original going for under £5, so i'd be tempted to pick that up and run it at full settings with full AA if your rig is too powerful for it. IMHO it still looks pretty good now...
Thanks for the vid. The first thought that struck me was: Riddick seems a lot smaller. Maybe it's the angle of the vid, but he doesn't seem as buff
The older Butcher Bay also looked better. Although the new lighting system looks amazing in the new one, the previous looked grimmer, darker, more dreadful. But, this is just nitpicking anyway
I just picked up Butcher Bay cheap at my local games store. I don't really want to waste the money on draconian DRM-laced games. DRM should be banned, just like salmonella.
I'm probably part of the problem, but I'm going to buy another copy of the game for PS3. I want the game to last, since it is an extremely awesome game (and Dark Athena has turned out to be very fun).
Word is that its 3 PCs, with unlimited installs on each PC (barring major hardware changes) and you can call them to ask for more installs.
not great, but not exactly "only 3 installs" as was originally reported.
Looking at their amazon page (1 star, lots of DRM related tags) I'm guessing this is backfiring on them... so i guess the PC version won't sell and it'll get blamed on PC piracy.. and the next version will be console only.... sigh.
(PS/ I note that DoW2's scores aren't looking so healthy either... mostly due to activation issues...)

soulgrindr: Word is that its 3 PCs, with unlimited installed on each PC (barring major hardware changes) and you can call them to ask for more installs.

Unfortunately, SecuROM's three activation limit does not ensure you can use it on three separate systems; if you make sufficient hardware or software changes to a system SecuROM considers it to be a new system and gobbles up another activation. Nobody can say quite how major a change will trigger this, not even the companies using SecuROM, so you're basically playing DRM Russian roulette any time you make an upgrade. If you're in the habit of reinstalling Windows or frequently updating your hardware you're going to blow through those activations faster than you could imagine.
As for requesting more installs, this is typically done via a non-free phone number (good luck if you're overseas) and they can choose to decline your request at their discretion for any reason. Additionally, when the publisher chooses to take down the phone service and/or activation server (which they can really do at any time they choose) your only way of playing the game would be to crack it, which is technically illegal.
You're not actually buying an activation-dependent game, you're merely renting it for an undisclosed period of time determined by the publisher.
Well, I had a free amazon gift card, and picked this up with it.
Hope it is good enough to actually finish the game (I havent finished but 1 new game out of 6 I have installed in the last 7 months).
