I've got a bit of a poser on my hands, and I'm wondering if folks here had any suggestions.

Looking through the Christmas lists from my parents, one of the things I've noticed is that Dad's asked for a copy of Myst. While the discs are available from Amazon, it's cheaper on GoG, and I could stack on some supplementary stuff (Riven, maybe).

The thing is, though, while my parents are fine with the whole digital distribution thing in principle, it's all a bit, well, tricky for them. They're on metred satellite internet, and such a big download like that's going to take a noticeable hit on their quota.

So, in short, I'd like to figure out a way to gift Dad the item on GoG, but still present it as a nice physical gift, and without them having to actually download the data through their connection. Any thoughts?

buy it from here on gog, perhaps wait on the xmas sale. if possible download it at a friends place, libary, or something burn in it on disc, copy it to an usb stick. wrap it. done.

better gift, get rid of that whole satellite internet.

Hop onto somebody else's computer. (A friend's, at a library, etc.)

Put the files onto a cd, then wrap it up nice.

Buy a usb stick and download the game install files from GOG to that. Then wrap the usb stick up and give that to him as a gift. All he'll have to do is plug in the usb stick and launch the intaller. No downloading from his pc needed.
There was also a topic about CD covers for gog games somewhere around here, if you'd like it to look nice and authentic-ish.

Do you own the game yourself?

I gave my mother Constructor for christmas last year. What I did was purchase the gift and send it to her e-mail, then burn the install file from my own copy to a disc, and give her that.
I would suggest burning it to a disc, only because you can dress it up a bit more than a simple USB stick. You can always grab some disc labels and print out a fun custom message/design to go along with it, as well as print out an insert for a blank disc case.

His father probably lives in the middle of nowhere and can only get satellite internet.
MYST? You're wondering how to gift a copy of MYST?

Go put that installation file on a flash drive or CD, like others have suggested. Then, go buy yourself a nice big bonded leather journal. Trace the shape of your object onto a page, then cut into the pages with a hobby knife until the hole through the pages is big enough to contain the object. Bind it closed with a nice ribbon. If you really want to get fancy, for a couple of bucks have MYST embossed on the cover.

Epic gift wrap, done.

Pretty much, yeah. My parents retired out to rural France, and there's not a lot of options open to them.

Anyhow: Thanks for all the suggestions, there's some nice ideas here. Might go with an SD card, might go with a USB key. I do have the game on my account, so it's just a case of gifting a second copy and shoving the data on the key.

I might need to think further if he ever asks for a game I *don't* have!
So what presents did you guys get from santa? Please do share, it's always nice to hear what people got :)

I myself got nothing. Nothing new though, since the last christmas present I got was when I was 12 or 13 years old :)

Sorry OP for "hijacking" your thread :/
