Ohohoho, you say. There's no way this can be enforced, the preventing of males to play as females?
Not true. According to GamePolitics, it's as simple as a webcam photo to PROVE YOUR GENDER. That's right, to sign up to play Aion or any other wonderful games in China run by the Aurora company in China, you must take a picture of yourself to prove your gender so you can sign up, and so you are unable to play as the opposite gender. But why? It's just a game. But it seems like females can play as male characters in games run by this online games operator, making this the a ridiculously stupid idea.
I have half a mind to take a picture of me in a Batman mask to spite them.
Photoshop to the rescue!
This is just a stupid knee jerk reaction to some idiot kids who decided to chat up people with female avatars only to find they are played by a trucker called Kevin with huge hairy arms.
Given China's policies on population reduction you'd have thought they'd be more inclined to indulge these people's online fantasies as they're going to kill off any residual chance they have of getting laid.
Well, I can't exactly say this is a surprising bit of news. This kind of foolishness seems par for the course in China. They may have -some- justification for it, but as usual, it's a case of "We're not sure exactly how to combat the problem, so let's just blow the whole damn planet up from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."
/facepalm.
And how are they going to prove that people aren't submitting pictures randomly found on the net? Or of female friends? Whatever next? They actually send someone to your house to stand behind you as you make your character -- while naked -- to ensure your gender both in real life and in game match?
Haha... This type of regulation never works because of the sheer amount of ways in which people can bypass it by submitting false info.
Probably they will check the people randomly and if they find anyone who has submitted false info, he/she will be shot and family taken as slaves.
I now have use for that prom dress my mom bought me for when I turned 18 when she thought I was girl instead of a boy back in her stomach...=)
