What is known:

It will be 3D and made in Unity (https://twitter.com/julian_gollop/status/264383804343476224)
Movement and combat will be close to the original (https://twitter.com/julian_gollop/status/264384106245267456)
Unity engine means it is easily portable, and it is planned for PC, MAC and iOS for now, maybe more OS's later
The work started a week ago, so it is at least one year before release
Gollop is looking for artists to make graphics (same about the sprites....)

AWESOME ! This game was the initial inspiration for Sacrifice !

this game has been an inspiration for quite a lot of things....
I haven't actually played this game, but if it's critically acclaimed AND a turn-based strategy game, consider me there.

Can anyone give me a quick summary of it, though? The pictures don't explain much.

Or you could watch a video of it. *zzzz*

D'oh!

Thanks. >.>
And it now have a website (off some sorts)

http://www.gollopgames.com/

"Multi-player arena battles
- Network play
- Asynchronous turns OR constant connection with timeouts for each players turn.
- Pass-and-play for mobile devices (allows multiplayer games on one device).
- 1-8 players
- Single player vs AI wizards is also an option
- Multiple arena configurations - based on number of players and battle mode
- Various battle modes
- Standard 'death match'
- Team based mode
- Co-op vs AI monster wizard
- Possibly more...

Single player 'Kingdoms of Chaos' campaign mode
- The campaign map is divided into regions, each controlled by an enemy wizard
- You start with a basic wizard character, and you must journey through regions battling enemy wizards.
- Your objective is to find and kill the Wizard King
- However each move on the campaign map, and each battle, will see the Wizard King and his Wizard Lords get slightly stronger. It is a race against time (turn-based time, that is).
- Enemy wizards have specific spell lists and AI personalities.
- Each region has a terrain type with various map layouts, wondering monsters, hazards and pickups.
- Your wizard will gain spells and improve basic stats through defeating enemy wizards and finding artefacts (such as 'magical tomes' which allow you to learn a spell).
- If you are defeated by a wizard in a region, you can always revisit it at a later date when you are better equipped.
- The Campaign map, and all regional battle maps, are all randomly generated according to a seed chosen by the player by entering a short text string. This means any other player can play the same campaign by entering the same seed string."
It is planned to get the game on PC, MAC and iOS to begin with, with Linux, Android and Ouya later. It will probably not be on XBLA or PSN (unless it makes a profit on the primary releases first, good to see someone buck the trend...)

Gallop is also looking for solution where you buy the game ones and can then have it on every platform you like - but do not see any easy solution how to do so. If you have any solutions, drop him a line here:

edit - my engrish is quite well. I have many learned through the ages.

Well, a little bump is in order, with latest news.

The official name now is Chaos Reborn

Lead Artist Robert Faludi have joined, and the first concepts have been made. The general style will stay very close to speccy designs. They look nice, I think, very stylised.
A little bump on this one.

There is now some information on how the spell system is shaping up: http://www.gollopgames.com/2013/05/spells-decks-and-hands.html. I like that there seems to be a dedicated single player mode.

Initial tests on some early terrain concepts are also in place - http://www.gollopgames.com/2013/03/some-terrain-concepting.html

and lastely, some original X-Com concept art: http://www.gollopgames.com/2013/04/original-x-com-concept-art.html
Shame he's apparently living in Bulgaria (wtf right) these days, if he was back in the UK he could at least do a Kickstarter for it

it really do not seem that he need the hassle. Let him just continue and see if he can make a good remake on his own. If he do not need additional funding at this stage, the better for him.

(strange comment... what is wrong with Bulgaria? it is a nice enough country?)

balkans are a cursed place.
Ehhh, I know nothing about Bulgaria, my thought is just that as essentially the creator/designer of UFO Defense, he would be able to generate press attention etc by doing a Kickstarter, meaning he could hire more people and put together a small team
