Hi! I just bought Descent 1 and 2 a few days ago from GOG and noticed that when I launched it, the default MIDI engine was set to Soundblaster Awe16 (or similar to it) emulated sound, and noticed that I couldn't change it to Awe32 emulation. How do I go about switching it for Descent? The only Dosbox I have are the ones bundled with Descent 1 and 2.
MIDI is handled by your host. You don't need AWE32.

Dosbox doesn't emulate awe32.
Or at least how to change it to sound less 8-bit? I want to use somewhat better than-the-default soundfont.

I want it to sound more like this - http://www.filefactory.com/file/cc3c1d6/n/game01.ogg

The default music has no reverb, but I want to be able to use music that does have reverb.

nintendo1889: Link?

Once I download it, I get confused as to how I actually USE it. Yes, I open up SFPack and so on, but....how do I actually USE it?

Edit: Ugh. That one sounds even worse. Less 8-bit and more 16-bit sounding please

I know there's the D1X rebirth project, which allows one to use revamped music, but that won't load into the .exe either.

I... don't... know... how you think it's 8-bit.

What midi options except for that SB 16 Descent has? Notice that I'm not talking about DOSBOX configuration but about game configuration. When it comes to midi I try Gravis Ultrasound (when possible - needs some additional configuration/downloading) or General Midi. What sound card do you own? If you can use soundfonts (so SB Live! or above on board or some kind of soft synthesizer) you can experiment with various soundfonts like (SGM, Utopia etc). Another option is to install Yamaha XG soft synthesizer (with 4MB bank) - it gives you additional midi device on PC.
