I'm currently staying in Germany, and will remain here for a few days. And there's a steam sale, and while I don't intend to buy many games, I will certainly buy some. However, I was stuck with a nasty surprise when I bought Bioshock while in Germany; I had a low violence version or some shit like that, but more importantly, it was german only and couldn't switch it to play in English.

I also happen to be in a situation where I can ask somebody else to buy games for me from abroad.

Is there a list somewhere of games that are censored in Germany, so I can make sure I ask the person abroad to buy me those while I can get the ones with no limitatioins?

PS: I'm aware it's potentially possible to buy from a different country's store while in Germany, but doing so has been a huge mess for me so far and I'd rather avoid it.

Dude,

you're well known here, so I can help with any extra purchases you require. I suspect others will offer too.
Here is a nice list:
http://www.gamepro.de/community/gppinboard/showthread.php?105923-BITTE-LESEN-Liste-der-indizierten-beschlagnahmten-Spiele-amp-DVDs-ab-2000!-(-folgt-)

But it won't help you very much because most of the publishers censors their game before they release them in Germany.
As a little help....if there is blood in the game chances are high that the game is censored, if they show any signs of Nazi forget about it. Leisure Suit Larry...the text was censored by the translator ;-)
Buy it elsewhere but not in Germany dude
(oh, and use an IP not connected to our land)

edit:
an even better list:

I think most of the games have a warning like this image.

I had to deal with the same shit when I was living in Germany. Best thing for you to do is ask others(who don't live in Germany) to buy games for you, then pay them back in GOGs.
I don't know why this thread title makes me lol xD
I'm already on an agreement with Klaatu, where I bought him some games during GOG's sales and I still have around 20€ credit for him to buy stuff for me. I was asking mainly to make sure to prioritize asking him the games that were censored, first.

Yes, it was that warning that reminded me I should check it out. When I purchased Bioshock last year, that warning may have been there, but I either didn't see it or I didn't care about a "low violence version" but didn't connect that idea with the game being available in German language only.

Yes, if it comes down to that, I would count on you guys. It's nice to have a safety net. But I tend to only ask for help when I really need it, so I don't annoy people with trivial stuff and then dismiss me when I really need it. Not very smart, maybe, but it's hard to fix a habit like that.

Isn't that against the "four freedoms", most especially the free flow of goods and services within the EU? Surely you should be allowed to use the UK version.
Censored (cut) is not the same like indexed/seized
Alsore there are some UK websites where you can buy many censored games but indexed games will eventually be seized by the duty/toll

So as long as the game was bought with a non-german IP it doesn't matter if it's activated on a german account/german IP?
I also posted a similar request in the Classifieds thread, I'd be really grateful if you guys could help me out :)

Correct.

According to German law, he is free to buy the UK version (or any other version for that matter). The only exception might be seized games, but I never tried to buy one of those.

However, Steam doesn't allow Germans to buy the non-German version of censored games. You either have to use a non-German IP or ask someone from another country to buy the game as a gift for you.

You don't really need a list. All you need do is use a web browser and hover your mouse over the purchase button and note the number displayed in the browser status bar (usually on the bottom). Then view the Steam store for another region, such as the US using ?cc=us at the end of the URL.

Once again hover your mouse over the purchase button and note the number. If the numbers match, the version sold to you is the same as the US one. If they differ it's likely a different version. Either a low violence one, or one specifically for sale in your region.

Taking Saints Row IV as an example:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/206420/?cc=jp shows an id of 28849
http://store.steampowered.com/app/206420/?cc=us shows an id of 28361
http://store.steampowered.com/app/206420/?cc=de shows an id of 28369

The three versions are different. The top is an unknown build for Japan (may become LVV, may stay same as US). The second is the uncut US or ROW version. The third is the LVV one for sale in Germany.

You can also reference those numbers on Steam Database for example:
http://steamdb.info/search/?a=app&q=saints+row+IV&type=-1

Will show the current ids for Saints Row IV. Click on the first and then on the Packages tab and you'll get this:
http://steamdb.info/app/206420/#section_subs

Here you'll see all the numbers that can show during a purchase.
Germany, priceless. :DDD
