SimonG: Wasn't "DRM free" also one of the core values.... ?

Am I the only one noticing that this is missing in the press release?
Dont panic... DRM free policy you can also describe as a fair treatment of players..

it is, and it will be. DRM-free policy is not only a core value, but it's also a value that distinguishes GOG.com from other digital distribution platforms.

deshadow52: yeah but doesn't that go under fair treatment and core values?
avatar
SimonG: That was my first thought too, but why don't they spell it out?
cause they assume people already know what their core values are

from page 2 of this thread...

serpantino: They'll probably end up being just www.g.com another generic distribution site which'll eventually serve up games with drm too.

TheEnigmaticT: Have a little faith in GOG. We're never going to add games with DRM. ;)
Well, change is inevitable. We'll see how it goes, I'm looking forward to read the press release from GOG TheEnigmaticT mentioned.
If having newer games means having more release days, then I'm all for it. Because of the nature of GOG's, the current model has them releasing games twice a week while competitors release them in far more frequent fashion. If newer games means we'll have a newer game released on monday and oldies on Wednesdays and fridays or something, then it's win-win. If it means they'll still release them twice a week, then the older games will suffer.

I take it releasing newer games is far easier than older ones since they don't have to track down unknown rights owners from no longer existing companies and fix the games to work on newer systems, which must take a lot of their time.

Every day release would be a wonderful reason to visit GOG.com from mon to sun :)
I really hope Legend of Grimrock would be released on GOG. Frist day insta-buy

But I wouldn't overhype "new games" on GOG.

For 13.99 and 16,99 we won't see anything new form major publishers. Of course, if 'new' = 2-3 years old games, then there's no problem.

It remains a core value. Don't worry.
I'll consider getting ARMA II if it eventually make it into GOG catalogue.
GOG policy is the same price wherever you live, so if $ stays $ for us, Europeans, it's gonna be cool.
Will we see Steamworks releases being stripped out of their Steamworks requirement, or are you guys not going to release Steamworks games?

I think it depends on the developers, if they could provide steam-free copy.

I'm pretty sure its the latter, unless they're particularly old steamworks games.
I welcome newer titles with open arms

However there are a lot of problems that can be associated with them

The biggest fear that I have is that some Dumbass publishers will overprice everything to hell and back if newer price points are introduced

I'm Looking at you Activision and Ubisoft
