I'm worried about the quality of the games that goes out 1 year after the other from the same developer :S...and as someone else said, hopefully the new games will be released in a different day(not tuesday and thursday)

Fever_Discordia: No-one's commented yet that newer games are going to attract a younger crowd than us nostalgia-nic 30 somethings, younger crowd = more testosterone and stupidity fueled forum flamings
This announcement means that the forums are going to the dogs! To the DOGS I tell you! and you guys are worried about the games? priorities, people!
Oh, yes. A great danger ahead. We should build a wall before that happens. Actually we germans have many experiences with walls. Maybe a language barrier? We all learn polish and converse in polish here in the forum and tell everybody that this is a core value of GOG. In this way we only have to deal with the polish youth which might have something else to do...

TheEnigmaticT: Huh. That's officially strange. I guess the dev guys made a change somewhere. I'll ask.

Vorax: The exclamation mark is visible on the forum index now.
oh THAT's what the exclamation point means - I though it meant 'hot topic' or something!

SimonG: ... It is not as simple as you might think. GOG only has a limited amount of ressources available. And I want GOG to put those into getting the classics back.Let's just take one aspect of the whole GOG going to new frontiers business. The licencing. ...
Everything is always limited but doesn't have to be constant. If the addition of newer games turns out to be profitable than their resources automatically expand accordingly, don't they? If everything goes well this could even mean that the resources going into old classic games are increased as a side effect. Wouldn't you like that?

On the other it could turn out a disaster in which case it would hurt GOG, but since GOG is profitable itself from the old games alone, I think they can dare an adventure. After all, if they grow, since the marginal costs of offering a new game are so small, the business scales very favorably. On the other hand, if they don't grow, there is the risk that a bigger player like Steam just ruins them some day.

Of course it's a change. The biggest problem for me will be that the name GOG will not be perfect anymore. So people looking for only older games will maybe be the minority some day...

But selling games online worldwide is like looking for gold nuggets in California 200 years ago. I cannot condemn GOG for trying to cut off a big slice of the cake.

I believe them that their philosophy will always remain to hunt for rare, old gems, because that's where they started and that's what they were loved for.

Yep, that's what it means. There should be a bar explaining the meaning of icons under the thread list (see attachment).

There are some attractive women working for GOG. Pic of the team was posted on here a few months ago, I believe.

I believe I was the one who posted it on the forum, no less :-) And, yes, I agree.

That is, if you mean this one.
I'm very excited about the possibilities this news brings. GOG will always be #1 for me.

Here is the PCGamer article for those interested.

I honestly don't understand how anyone can be against the idea of new games released at one worldwide price DRM-free. If anything that's an answer to a prayer right there. Many prayers even.

As for GOG losing the "GO" bit, well, it's not like every good game on here is old and it's not like every old game on here is good. In fact some fail on both counts. So really, I'd rather that be lost in an altogether more positive way than to the inadequate second sequels GOG seems to be in the habit of collecting.

I welcome this news and look forward to seeing what it brings. But I do hope that some of the additional revenue it brings is ploughed back into making the old games work properly. Not only are a lot of games still lacking Win7 compatibility altogether, a lot don't work properly in spite claims to the contrary.

Ah yes - on the bottom of the actual general discussion board, the 'community home' view just gives the catagories without the statuses though, and that's where I spend most of the time (and other lame excuses for being blind - I may even have read it at one point and then forgotton later - who knows?)
Nice to see but you'll have to improve on your sales in both pricing and schemes (don't make me buy ten titles to get higher discounts) to be competitive. At least to those of us who come here for the 'Good Ol' Part and aren't rabidly anti-Steam (or any other DD vendor).

Now that they have new plans for the future, I wonder if the GOG team is planning to update/change the website, forums, downloader... or make a new, separate site for the gng's.
