There's much more to the game that it's just impossible to show everything within two and a half minutes.
Most importantly, we showed you a preview of our main characters:

Geralt's close friends and some of the last witchers remaining in the world. Vesemir, Eskel, and Lambert will play a big part in the game, as well as their famous fortress, Kaer Morhen.
You also got a glimpse of the renowned bard Dandelion and the sorceress, Triss Merigold.
Emhyr Var Emhyreis, Emperor of Nilfgaard, the most powerful man in the world of the Witcher also made an appearance. Recognise his voice?
And then there was Ciri!
And Yennefer!

By the way, if you're new to the series, don't worry, the game will provide you all the information you need to now, and you'll start loving (and battling) characters in no time!

Also you've been asking many questions about gameplay features and we're finally ready to answer some of them:

Yes, you will be able to fight on horseback.
The crossbow. Yup, Geralt has a ranged weapon. Because monsters fly and you can't stab them.
Remember swimming and sailing? You'll be able to dive and search for a lot of hidden stuff too. There's a whole underwater world to discover.
Horse racing anyone?

You also got to hear more music from the game. This particular track was composed by Marcin.... We'd love to hear your feedback on our forums, facebook, or twitter etc.

Since we're going to be able to play games offline, I want to ask that if you include achievements with Galaxy (it's not clear if that's in the plans), would you please encourage the developers to include retroactive achievement reporting? That's when the game will check your save file for achievements and re-send them when you load your folder, or something to that effect. This way, we won't lose any achievements because we were playing online at the time! This is a big deal at Kongregate - games won't even get badges at Kong without retroactive reporting and I'd recommend similar. Really, all games should have retroactive reporting just to deal with glitches in the system, so this should be a common standard, and especially important with the offline features of Galaxy.

This is extremely exciting news! This is really the best announcement they could have possibly made aside from having a new major publisher on board.

The lack of easy updating and online matchmaking was a big stumbling block for many potential customers as well as developers/publishers. This move will not only make the service attractive to more people, but will also increase the number of potential titles GOG can bring to the service (as well as enhance the titles that are already available). Overall, it will serve to make GOG an even greater competitor to Steam. They weren't kidding when they said that this will open up a galaxy of opportunities.

That said, it is a bit disappointing that they didn't have a third-party title to announce that would utilise Galaxy. Granted, the client is still early in development and I doubt any development studio would be willing to obligate themselves to release a Galaxy-supported game without fully knowing the ins and outs of the client. But it would have helped drive the point home if GOG was able to announce the release of third-party titles that wouldn't have been possible without the implementation of Galaxy.

This announcement does make me wonder if GOG will be doing any work to integrate some of the existing games in their catalogue to work with Galaxy (presuming that's actually possible).

It entirely possible the client will be developed around how the games are currently done so could work with all GOG games already. Of course achievements and online play would be a game by game basis and would need to be integrated.

I'm currently completely confused on how multiplayer matchmaking is supposed to work with this GOG Galaxy Client.

The moment it seemed they were going to explain it, instead we got a video of their new card game. Sure, that works with Galaxy. Sure, that'll be both GOG and Steam. It doesn't however explain anything. No doubt that game's matchmaking will work for both, it's designed for it after all. However,

Does that mean if a game is going to have Galaxy matchmaking its multiplayer matchmaking has to have been designed for Galaxy?

I assume the innovation of the idea there is that multiplayer matchmaking for the games not sold on GOG, do not require the Galaxy client to play online (but perhaps do for achievements?)
On one hands this was a very nice conference with exciting announcement.

On the other hand there is a lack of details on exactly how the client works, does it update installed games or downloaded installer or both? If it updates installer, will we have to redownload our whole library first or is there a way for us to make our manually downloaded library conform to what the updater expects? Will it permit downloading without installing?

I am not a multiplayer gamer but I am curious at how does it permit playing with gamers who use other clients? Will the games already in the GOG library be updated to be able to use Galaxy?

Vainamoinen: GOG, no. FIRST you release the system requirements, THEN you open pre orders.
Not possible until the game code is written and tested. They've put this in their FAQ on the http://www.gog.com/thewitcher3/en page as it is likely to be a common question.

9) What are the system requirements for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt?

A) We can’t give you the system requirements because the game is not optimized yet. The optimization process is usually the last stage of the project, so we will be able to give you this information closer to the launch in February 2015.


Just looking at the trailers and comparing it to The Witcher 3 and knowing what we know about the game already, I'd estimate that the system requirements for The Witcher 2 is a starting point. If someone can't meet the requirements for The Witcher 2, they probably wont meet them for the new game. This is one of the most graphically intense games coming out so unless someone has a reasonably modern PC built in the last 2 years or so with a beefy video card and higher end CPU I imagine they're going to have to drop the resolution and turn down effects to play it, or upgrade to a current generation system. If game requirements are even remotely a concern for anyone then they probably shouldn't bother pre-ordering unless they're completely ok with waiting until they have hardware capable of running it down the road after the game comes out though, unless they want to just support the company and their efforts.

So I'd say hold off on buying it until February or so when they know what the requirements will be and announce them at least. Hopefully the preorder pricing will still be in effect.

The latter is exactly what I'm wondering...whether they will be doing any integration of online play. That could potentially be another service that GOG can offer to developers. I admit, though, I'm not well versed when it comes to the technical sides of gaming, so I'm not sure if such an arrangement would even be possible.

One thing that I found concerning regarding the video conference was the use of the word "offline mode" by Guillaume. Granted, maybe I'm just reading too much into it , but it almost implies that you'll need Galaxy to install the games. Is it supposed to work like GFWL's offline accounts did in that you can install and play a game offline, but the client still needs to be running? Because honestly, I would go against the "optional client" principle.

On a more positive note, I must say, I'll be very impressed if Cross-Play ends up working as intended. The sheer existence of "gaming platforms" on PC has always rubbed me the wrong way, since I've always viewed PC gaming as being about freedom and being locked to a specific client is not my idea of that. Being able to play with my friends regardless of where we bought the game would certainly help in restoring some of that freedom.

Galaxy is optional, you can install the games they same way you do now. I would say they just highlighted offline mode because so many clients today try to restrict you to be online to do anything.

It's entirely possible that they won't but from that statement it sounds like what I said above to me. In order to unlock and access the features of Galaxy the game has to be designed around it. (ie like Steamworks games) but I could be wrong. It shouldn't be hard to point the client to take over the standard installer and install the game, display it and update it without really changing how the games currently work.

But since we don't know how it's done, we won't know until it's released. The good thing about GOG though over steam, is they have permission to modify game files I would assume since they modify the original games to make the work with modern windows and computers... so they can in theory make every game work with the client without having to wait for a developer to do it if need be.

And so, GOG announces that at some point they'll do something, although they don't want to give us a lot of details or any sort of time frame or other useful information, and also you can buy a game that won't be released until eight months from now, if you want to do that.
