tinyE: I'd just like to point out that right now my cat Ramesses is laying on the bed licking his butt, not protecting me from anybody or anything. :D
My cat is comfortably snoozing on the couch. :)
Did not expect this from a cat.
If you google dog saves kid from ... you will find tons of videos too btw.

grimgroove: I'm worried about the dog :( It's probably going to be put down isn't it? :(
Already has been.

grimgroove: Two questions:
Why don't you have a youtube account?
You need a youtube account to watch youtube videos?
1) Because I don't want one.
2) Apparently for certain ones, yes. It wouldn't let me watch this one without signing in and verifying my age.
That dog let the cat win.
These were... what, security cameras ?

Making this video a lot less of the "feel-good"-kind it's aiming at for me. I love cats and dogs but it does make me sad to see a living creature having to be put down.

Dogs aren't that clever.
I loved this.. Maybe too much.. Yes, I tend to dislike, if not hate dogs, in comparison to cats. +1 for the share.

Once a dog tasted human blood, it is said to be over.. I would also get that dog to be killed, seeing the injuries. Yes, as far as killing it by my own hands, were it my son victim..

Therefore, I am not sorry to say, GLAD what must be done has been done, proper measures taken for SAFETY.

Love this a small cat takes on a dog over 10 times it size and scares the crap out of it. Go super pussy.

The dog clearly had issues.

This wasn't a territorial defense or an incident where the kid incited the dog, the dog was going out looking for prey and attacked the kid. If you watch the dog's behavior, he was clearly seeking, stalking, and attacking what he perceived as prey. IMO that represents a mental problem in a domesticated dog that is irresolvable.

I feel for pet owners who have to put down their pets because some stupid kid incited the dog into violence (most dogs can be triggered to attack if pushed hard enough), but not when the dog was going out, stalking the kid, then attacking him. I'm convinced the dog would have dragged the kid off and killed him if he had been allowed to do so.

We've had dogs with mental problems before and that turned violent similar to this dog, they were "sent to the farm". It was sad because they were great dogs at one point, but they snapped one day and never returned to normal. The life of a dangerous animal is not worth the damage they can cause to others and you really have no other option, either keep them and take the risk or put them down. In this case, putting the dog down was the right decision, it's only a matter of time before he attacks someone else.

Apparently it's a rough area with a lot of drug activity.

Not likely. I take it you've never seen a dog try to fight a cat, the cat pretty much always wins. It usually winds up approximately like that where the dog takes a shot and the cat swipes the nose with the claw and the dog runs off.

You'll see dogs chasing cats, but once the dog catches up, the dog pretty much always winds up getting its ass handed to it before slinking off with a nasty cut to the nose.

However, considering the camera placements, it does look like a bit of a set up.

A lot of dog owners can't be bothered to properly train and discipline their dogs. I personally tend to hate dogs because their fucking owners are not qualified to care for animals. That and the odd ones that put dog shit in our fucking recycling bin because they can't be bothered to carry it back home. Not even the trash bin, the fucking recycling bin where they know we'll have to reach in there and grab it out.

Plus, dogs are just plain dirty.

OTOH, dogs are kind of delicious, so they're not all bad.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it was the wrong decision to put him down, but that doesn't make the matter any less sad, for both the dog and its owners. And because I view it from their perspective rather than that of the heroic cat, I don't get the feel-good vibes this video is obviously aiming at.
When I heard this news, I did not believe it at first. But after realizing it really happened, I'm shocked. I guess this shows us, the cat mind is still a mystery... OR maybe this little boy is the Beastmaster...or can communicate with cats or something like that. :)

That is why I find this news, shocking.

grimgroove: for both the dog and its owners.
It has "owners" ? The absence of collar make me think of a stray dog, just looking for a pray like any animal in the wild. Including cats when it comes to birds, mice, etc...

I was going to say the same about cats
